CASTLE “Law & Murder” Review

CASTLE (ABC) Law & Murder

CASTLE “Law & Murder” Season 3 Episode 19 – The first few minutes of this episode had me nervous about the next time I get asked for jury duty……well more nervous than normal anyway. I’ve served on two juries myself and while I’m always happy to do my civic duty, the opening scene had me wondering if I should be a little more careful the next time I walk through the courthouse doors.

Turns out though that it wasn’t the defendant who took out the juror, it was the brother of the original victim…..who actually killed her too.

Castle and Alexis had a nice little backstory this week when he finds out she lied to him about her whereabouts one day. Worried dad that he is he decides to do a very bad thing and track her phone, which of course doesn’t go over well when she finds out. But they both fess up in the end and again I had to admire their close relationship.

As for the “Caskett” storyline (I’m so proud of myself, I just learned about that one), well, we didn’t get much except for the two of them going off to see a mutual favorite movie at the end of the episode. But the Caskett lovers have learned to take whatever they can get.

There were also some nice moments with Ryan and Esposito which were great, but when it comes to those two I’m like a little kid with an ice cream cone – I always want more. I’d also like to see some more of Lanie and Esposito.

The captain got to do a bit more in this episode, which was nice. Telling Beckett that there was nothing they could do about the DA and then going to see his old friend himself, was awesome.

My favorite bits…….

Castle doing his best “Moviefone” voice.

Castle texting his poker group and taking dibs on the story. Now there’s a man with his priorities all figured out.

Mr. Mueller’s description of the man who threatened him being a “big, scary black guy.” Yeah, that’s helpful.

The look Beckett gave Castle when he said “it looks like he makes a killer cup of Joe.” What? I thought it was funny.

Castle very proudly showing off his new app to track his daughter.

Esposito accusing Ryan of trying to sound like Castle.

This bit:
Esposito: “Memorizing one quote does not make you a Renaissance man.”
Ryan: “What if I memorize two?”

The way Ryan and Esposito kept up their argument when they saw someone was in the room, so as to keep their quarry distracted and set him up nicely. I especially enjoyed Ryan throwing the guy over his shoulder. So awesome.

The clerk telling Beckett that she would be “some lifer’s bitch before breakfast” if she was sent to prison. LOL.

The fact that Castle’s tell is apparently the same as his daughter’s.

“If you’re so interested in what I’m doing, why don’t you ask your phone? I’m sure there’s an app for that.” Oooh…..ouch. She got him there.

Esposito’s congratulatory back slap for Castle being a smidge to hard.

Beckett pointing out that the seat button was only a great part of the mystery if they got a print…otherwise they were just going to be looking for “tall people.” Well, at least that would leave me out. Whew.

Alexis admitting to her dad what she had been doing in Williamsburg. Like Beckett said, he really does have the greatest kid ever.

The captain asking what was gray about sending an innocent man to prison.

The captain showing the DA that he was mic’d.

Castle’s feigned innocence about Forbidden Planet and Beckett’s enthusiasm for it. OMG so unbelievably cute!

What did you think of this episode of Castle? Got any favorite bits or least favorite bits of your own? I’d love to hear from you!

Yeah, I think you’re right on that one. If they’re not gonna give us some Caskett, the least they can do is give us some Esplainey to hold us over.

Love that he tricked her into a date… ;)

Hey, i love your reviews! :D You review my 2 favourite shows, The Mentalist (which is my absolute favourite) and Castle! Unfortunately i’m about 3 weeks behind on reading your Mentalist reviews as we are that many episodes behind over here on UK TV.

As for this particular episode of Castle, i’d like to give kudos to the writers for what i thought was a pretty good case. Castle solid as ever, and i agree: more Esplainie to tie us over till we get more CASKETT!

WOWOWOW just realised for the first time that you review Justified as well! You review all 3 of my favourite shows! Safe to say you have gotten yourself a new regular reader…

Was it just me or was some of the guest star acting really really bad this episode? Also, the Captain is a more effective character when he has less to do. Not sure if it was his cliched lines or line delivery but it really didn’t connect.

That forbbiden Planet thing at the end was so cute and it made me forgive the writers for giving us almost an entire epi without any caskett bits :)
That life’s bitch line cracked me up it was so unexpected from that lady. And also luved the Ryan quote conversation, I wish we’d get more Ryan and Esposito backstory not just bits & pieces.

  • St. Miriam

A bit that I enjoyed was the bottle of 1875 St. Miriam’s. (Last referenced in episode 3.10 ‘Last Call’)
