Starz Institutes 90 Day Delay on New Original Episode Netflix Streaming

Premium cable channels seem to be aligning in how they will deal with Netflix going forward. Last week Showtime announced it would pull its current shows from Netflix’s online streaming, and now Deadline reports that Starz will institute a ninety day delay between the premiere of new episodes of its shows and when they will be available on its Play Starz broadband service carried by Netflix, Qwest and Verizon.

In a statement, Starz said,

“Beginning with the April 1 premiere of the new original drama Camelot, new episodes of Starz originals will now be available on the Starz Play services 90 days after they debut on the network, with exclusive first-run movies later following suit.”

Prior seasons of Starz series and previously aired movies will still be offered via Netflix streaming and valid Starz subscribers will be able to access all current network programming through Starz Online. Starz’s current deal with Netflix is up at the end of the year.
