Jeff Daniels in Talks for HBO Pilot

Jeff-Daniels

According to an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, Jeff Daniels is in discussions to join Aaron Sorkin and Scott Rudin’s HBO drama pilot in its lead role. The project is tentatively titled More as the Story Develops and gives a behind-the-scenes look at a nightly cable news show. This is along the same vein as Sorkin’s past shows, including NBC’s Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, which was set behind-the-scenes at a sketch comedy show and ABC’s Sports Night, which dealt with the people and issues of a sports news program. Also created by Sorkin, even NBC’s The West Wing gave a view of the inner workings of the White House. The Hollywood Reporter states that Sorkin spent time with Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, both high profile cable news anchors, in order to research and learn more about the world of evening cable news.

If Daniels signs on and the project goes to series, this will be his first stint as a television series regular. He was last seen on TV in the 2008 Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, Sweet Nothing in My Ear. As for Sorkin, this will be his first foray into cable television. He and Rudin most recently worked together on The Social Network as writer and producer, respectively.

Sorkin and Rudin will both serve as executive producers on this HBO drama.
