CALIFORNICATION “And Justice For All” Advance Review

CALIFORNICATION “And Justice For All” Season 4 Episode 12 - Are you planning on watching this week’s season finale of Californication? Well, if you are not, you should. The folks over at Californication have really done themselves proud with this one. In “And Justice For All”, Hank receives his sentencing. He takes Abby with him to a dinner party at Stewart and Marcy’s pad – which is the most epically awesome dinner party ever recorded in television history. If that doesn’t make you want to watch this episode I don’t know what will. I don’t want to give away any spoilers so please just take my word for it that this might very well be the best episode of the entire series. Stephen Tobolowsky, Michael Ealy, Addison Timlin, Rob Lowe, and Carla Gugino guest star.

Season 4 has been a wild ride and I have to admit I’m sad to see it end. I think it did a great job of tying up all the necessary lose ends while at the same time leaving some new possibilities open for Season 5. Also, what an awesome cast of guest stars this season. Don’t you agree? Personally, I’m hoping that all of them return for the next season. Although I love them all, my favorites were Rob Lowe as the crazy, dark, Eddie Nero and Carla Gugino as the tough/sexy Abby.

Although this season had a lot of guest stars, its not a show that needs them to be successful – many of my favorite moments from this season involved Hank, Karen, Marcy and Charlie. For me, Californication is in my top 5 favorite shows on television and I hope you like the season finale as much as I did. Don’t forget to watch Californication this Sunday on Showtime at 9:00 pm. After you have watched the show, please come back, leave me a comment and let me know what you thought!

They really left this episode with no left over loose ends that have continued through out the entire show. Almost felt as if they were ending it. God I hope they dont!

It’s funny, earlier today I looked at a posting on the Showtime Californication Message Board, where some self-promoting blogger alleged that she and her friends all think the show had “jumped the whale.” As in, more than the shark.

So I was wondering, was I living in a strange alternate universe, where I found it to be a great Guilty Pleasure. So I hit Google News, seeking a plethora of reviews of S4E12, and while a few like Bruce Fretts at TV Guide had issues, most seem to feel it is a great series and a great episode. As do I. (Rob Lowe was absolutely manic, esp. when he came to Peggy’s side).

That same Google search also reveals that Tom Kapainos has done a few interviews about Season 5. Seek them out, if you’d like to know a little about what happens as Hank heads up the road in Blackie (which may have a functioning right headlight for once!).

BTW, go back and view S1E1- The Pilot. As Tom Kapainos says, this one could have been the series bookend, and upon a second viewing of the Pilot, think you’ll understand.

Two thumbs up. Even if Peggy has a potty mouth.
