GENERATOR REX “Divide By Six” Review

Generator Rex
GENERATOR REX “Divide By Six” Episode 27 – This episode of Generator Rex provided some much needed background and development for one of the coolest characters on the show, Six. We find out that the character is called Six because he is the sixth most dangerous person in the world and that there are 5 individuals ranked above him.

Five, is a pink haired girl with a guitar and strange accent that I think is supposed to be some kind of cockney, although it sometimes sounded Australian or South African depending on what she was saying – so I have no idea where she’s actually supposed to be from. The fourth ranked person is known as IV and he’s covered head to toe in bandages and recovering from a lost pinky finger. Tre, is the third most dangerous person in the world and I’m gathering he might hold a similar ranking for the dumbest person in the world. He’s got brute strength and despite the differences in physical appearance, he reminded me of Boomhauer from King of The Hill since I couldn’t understand most of the words that were coming out of his mouth. Dos, is from Spain and funnily enough, he somehow resembles the Dos Equis man in appearance and speech. He’s the second most dangerous man in the world, but based on how bored the rest of the team was during his stories on the plane, he’s probably not the second most interesting man in the world.

Lastly, there’s One – we don’t know much about him other than he was someone important to the five people ranked below him and that he was Six’s teacher and guardian. He’s gone EVO and is on the brink of losing his sensibilities despite having fought it for years. He’s been self-imprisoned over molten lava where he’s set to destroy himself if he can no longer maintain the mental capacity to enter the fail safe code.

I really liked that Six was totally dedicated to One despite the threats of the 4 more dangerous people before him and the danger of the uncontrollable EVO behind him. Six was determined to do whatever he could to save his teacher. I liked seeing Six react from a deep emotional place even while his voice was remained relatively monotone. When Rex was able to act as a medium for One to speak through him to Six, it was great to hear that One wanted to tell Six that he was proud of him. The moment ends with One inexplicably melting into the earth and giving his life force to the island making it beautiful and green. It didn’t make much sense, but I was so excited about Six having taken off his ever present sunglasses that I didn’t think about it too much.

We got to see Rex’s new cool ability which, combined with Six’s fighting abilities, allowed them to easily overpower the others. I loved when Rex asked Six if this made him the new number 1, because I had been wondering the same thing. Six’s response was perfect because he explained that the rankings were not about being the “best fighter”, but about being the “most dangerous” and that this was a ranking that Six was no longer interested in competing for.

This episode of Generator Rex was a lot of fun and I was really happy to be able to get more background about Six that would add depth to his mysterious character. I expect the remaining four dangerous people will return but from the way Six regards them, I have a feeling they’ll probably be getting in Rex’s way. In bringing Rex to the island, Six had shared something very intimate and private about his history and I think that in the end, Rex and Six have become much closer. Six made it clear that he respects Rex and now that Rex knows more about Six’s background, I’m interested to see how their relationship and interactions might be different in the future.
