MAD LOVE “The Kate Gatsby” Review

MAD LOVE (CBS) The Kate Gatsby

MAD LOVE “The Kate Gatsby” Episode 3 – How appropriate that tonight’s episode was all about Kate’s birthday party and today also happens to be my birthday as well. Could it be fate trying to tell me something? Hmmm..probably not, since she had a huge birthday bash and I spent my evening at home, working. It did make me wonder something though – is it wrong to be jealous of a character on TV?

As it turns out, Kate’s big parties aren’t nearly as much fun for the birthday girl as they should be because they turn her best friend into a raging lunatic. So she makes the mistake of listening to Ben and actually tells Connie how she really feels, which of course leads to the predictable best friend break-up.

But that’s okay, because Ben actually redeems himself pretty nicely in the end. He spends the whole episode looking for the perfect gift and totally pulls it off when he manages to get Kate and Connie to the planetarium where their missed field trip would have been. Cue the makeup hugs.

So while I can’t say that Kate should listen to every piece of advice Ben gives her in the future, there’s no doubt his heart was in the right place.

My favorite bits..

Finding out that Kate’s party is called “K-fest.” I so want to come up with a cool name for all of my future birthday parties, too. Though “M-fest” doesn’t have quite the same ring to it.

Kinda digging the term “pa-jay-jay” nearly as much Larry did.

Thinking that Ben was pretty smart to have figured that he needs to stop listening to Larry as soon as the words “here’s what you do” come from his mouth.

Larry asking Ben if he measured under Kate’s bed because that’s where the painting was going to end up. And here I thought I was the only one who hid unwanted presents under there.

Kate’s inability to say the word “bitch.” LOL.

Ben managing to break something in Kate’s room faster than anyone I’ve ever seen.

Kate calling Connie Party-zilla.

Ben misunderstanding his part as the knockout punch as being where he would knock out Connie. I see how that could be easy to confuse.

This bit: Connie: “I don’t know what to tell you Larry, they didn’t have chocolate fountains in the twenties.” Larry: “Yeah well they didn’t have push-up bras either but I see that didn’t stop you.”

Finding out that Larry and Connie made out. LOL.

Connie telling Kate that they still had the ding-dong and looking at Larry.

“You can’t go wrong with a speaker that looks like a rock.”

What did you think of this episode of Mad Love? Got any favorite bits or least favorite bits of your own? I’d love to hear from you!

I enjoyed the episode. It’s not my favorite sitcom but it’s still good. Although part of me wonders if I only like it because of Jason Biggs, Sarah Chalke and Tyler Labine.

I have to confess that this was the first ep I saw and I was kinda surprised I liked it as much as I did. Maybe not a favorite, yet, but up there. But with a cast like that, I think it’d be almost impossible *not* to like it, ya know?
