EAGLEHEART “Me Llamo Justice” Episode 4 – Although tonight’s episode of Eagleheart, got off to a slow start, “Me Llamo Justice” made up for it’s somewhat clunky opening by devolving into complete randomness that was so unexpected that it was difficult to not laugh.
After four men carrying ventriloquist dummies across the United States/Mexico border to “entertain” at a “birthday party” are gunned down in a bloody massacre, Marshall Chris Monsanto decides he’s taking his team south of the border to bring Eagleheart justice to Mexico. I loved Monsanto’s line after the magician in the magic shop is explaining how the dummies are being used to transport drugs across the border. Suzie, who had been suggesting logical courses of action since the very beginning, asks if they’re going to contact the D.E.A. to handle this. Monsanto responds that they’re going to find Saldivar and make him “D.E.A…. D.” It’s even better because Monsanto looks around as if he’d been waiting to tell that joke for a while.
Once in Mexico, Brett wonders aloud if trading his gun for a churro was a bad idea. I can understand how it was a tough decision for him; churros are fantastic. They head into the factory that pressure molds cocaine into any shape and get a tour under the guise of being drug dealers but Brett blows their cover and the the rest of the scenes in the factory are basically a duck hunt of cartel goons. Monsanto and Suzie easily pick off any armed gunmen that move in their direction without pausing for conversation or taking serious aim. All these bad guys are merely an annoyance to them which makes these scenes funny. Of course, Monsanto runs into Rosa, the ex-wife of Saldivar, looking absolutely stunning in a tiny red sundress. Macho Monsanto can’t resist her pleas for help and he takes her with his team back over to US Soil.
And this is where it all goes crazy.
A new plot twist is revealed practically every minute. Each new twist is more ludicrous than the last and completely over the top ridiculous. First, Rosa locks herself in the bathroom so Monsanto busts the door down and finds that she has dropped herself in the toilet. Literally, her bottom half has dissolved into the toilet because she’s made of cocaine. Ok, really? I don’t know how anyone was expecting that.
Rosa then begs Monsanto for forgiveness and to flush her down the toilet, while she tells him he was set up – by the magician who is busting into his hotel room. Monsanto shoots the magician and his cronies and heads to the factory for revenge on Saldivar.
Unbelievably Monsanto gets shot down by Saldivar, so the whole time I’m thinking Monsanto’s going to pop up and spring an attack on Saldivar while his back is turned, but I was not even close. The body on the floor is not even Monsanto. It’s his pressed cocaine duplicate which he made during the tour of the factory and, like Rosa, it somehow has fully functioning physical and mental capacities. I absolutely was not expecting that.
Monsanto breaks Saldivar’s neck and is victorious – as everyone expects from Eagleheart – but from behind Monsanto, the four ventriloquist dummies from the beginning of the episode come to life and exit the factory. At this point I have no idea what is going on and I’m thinking, yes, those dummies will probably give me nightmares, but this is so random it’s hilarious. Eagleheart then throws one final twist into the episode by having Monsanto turn back to the camera with a face looking like a dummy and bearing a fiendish grin. It was so creepy I actually jumped a little bit and of course laughed.
This whole episode felt like a roller coaster. It chugged up slowly at the beginning, but once the plot hit it’s peak it just whizzed by with totally unexpected turns and drops all moving at super speed. It was probably not my favorite episode so far, but it was definitely the most random and strange, so that counts for something. I liked seeing a bit more of the action choreography in this episode since there hasn’t been much of that since the pilot episode. I’d like to see Monsanto bring vengeance with his fists as much as possible and it looks like next week we’ll get more of that too.
