No one can say that fans of FIREFLY aren’t dedicated! The cult hit of 2002 is STILL stirring up talk between actors, writers, and fans – and all with good reason. Firefly was awesome and should be brought back to airwaves. but I digress.
Last week Nathan Fillion, who played Mal on the series, told Entertainment Weekly that he would love to step back into his browncoat again. and this time he laid out his game plan. According to CNN, Fillion told EW that if he “got $300 million from the California Lottery, the first thing I would do is buy the rights to Firefly, make it on my own, and distribute it on the internet.”
Well, leave it to fans of Firefly and of Fillion himself to take this information and run with it – via Twitter two past writers of the show said that they would jump on board, as well as Jewel Staite, who played Kaylee aboard the ship.
In addition to the support on Twitter, a Facebook page appeared named “Help Nathan Buy Firefly” – and fans are collecting funds so Fillion can purchase the rights to Firefly. Personally, I’ll donate as well! The Facebook page has over 33,000 members and it’s not even a week old!
While the creators of the page aren’t giving up their names or identities, they did state that the reality of Fillion purchasing the rights to the show are slim, but they hope that the outpouring of support will make Firefly creators or TV execs take another look at bringing Firefly back.
While it’s been off the air for 9 years now, Firefly will be airing in reruns on the Science Channel beginning on March 6th.
