GREY’S ANATOMY “Not Responsible” Review

GREY'S ANATOMY "Not Responsible"

GREY’S ANATOMY “Not Responsible” Season 7 Episode 16 – As we head toward the end of Season 7 we are finally given more episodes concerning actual medical issues instead of the usual and tired relationship drama that we dealt with in the beginning and even for most of Season 6. I, for one, am relieved.

The kid with cystic fibrosis that needed a lung transplant was very sad. I knew that Teddy was not going to let him get the lung transplant unless he broke up with his girlfriend. However, I also knew that when they said they were not going to see each other again, they were lying. What a horrible situation to be in. You fall in love with someone because they can understand you and what you are going through and still want to be with you, but being near them actually kills you. Avery was right, Lexie is definitely the person that you would want to deliver the news that your girlfriend really did leave you. She sure had a way of presenting the reality of the situation to the girl.

Then we have the women in the Alzheimer’s clinical whose family has been so wrapped up in caring for her that they have completely missed the importance of the knot on their son’s neck. Turns out it was a very life-threatening condition. If that is not horrific enough, Stark insists that Child Protective Services be called. While I have no doubt that they would have cleared the parents, Arizona was right. Once you are in the system, you are always in the system. That is about the last thing that family needed as evidenced by the panic attack the mother had when she found out. Luckily, Stark changed his mind apparently for the first time ever. Somehow this translated to asking April out and her saying yes? My first thought beyond “Yuck!” was that he was her boss. Then I realized that this is Grey’s Anatomy and Derek was Meredith’s boss, Burke was Yang’s, Sloan was Lexie’s, Owen was Yang’s, and the list goes on. My second thought is that there is quite an age difference between Stark and April. I do wonder if a relationship will soften him a bit.

Finally, we have the Chief’s wife, Adele, who has returned with yet another fall and yet another injury. On top of that, her story about how she fell is inconsistent again. Richard pawns her off on Bailey without giving her any further information. Given Adele’s changing story and new accident prone status, Bailey suspects she is drinking. When that is not the problem, Bailey is wise enough to consult Meredith. More importantly, Bailey is wise enough to confront Richard and admonish him for not immediately sending his wife to the best person in the hospital, Derek. Finally, Richard lets common sense rule over his denial and he asks Derek to take a look. Does anyone suspect that Adele will be one of the patients in Derek’s trial? Speaking of the trial, it was finally great to see one of the patients get the active serum for once.

In relationship news, Avery makes a move for Lexie that leads to them quickly advancing their relationship to sex and showering. Mark, Callie and Arizona work on struggling to each have a voice in the decisions for the baby. Finally, Owen and Yang realize they are at crossroads about the decision to have a baby at all. I am not sure it is appropriate to tell someone they need to grow up merely because they do not want children. Did anyone ever think Yang would want to be a mother?
