Actress Christina Ricci is reportedly in negotiations to star in ABC’s 1960s-set PAN AM, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The drama comes from Sony Pictures TV and is described as a nighttime soap revolving around pilots and flight attendants (or stewardesses, as they were known then) at the once-dominant airline. Jack Orman (an executive producer/writer on ER ) penned the script and will also exec produce. Meanwhile Thomas Schlamme (The West Wing, Mr. Sunshine) is on board to direct the new series.
Already cast in the series are Australian actress Margot Robbie as one of Pan Am’s flight attendants and Michael Mosley (Scrubs) as one of the pilots.
This wouldn’t be the first turn on TV for Ricci, who has periodically popped up on series television in guest arcs including ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy in 2006 and TNT’s Saving Grace in 2009. The actress’ breakout film role was of course 1990′s Mermaids, where she starred alongside Cher. After that, Ricci cemented her status as a precociously unconventional actress when she played Wednesday Addams in the 1991 film adaptation of TV classic The Addams Family. She then went on to earn critical raves for adult roles in such films as Buffalo ’66, The Ice Storm and The Opposite of Sex.
Next up, Ricci can be seen in the films Bel Ami and Born to Be a Star.
