OFF THE MAP “A Doctor Time Out” Review

OFF THE MAP “A Doctor Time Out” Season 1 Episode 3 – Ben said at one point in this episode that things were a lot simpler there in the jungle. Because a patient was brain dead and they didn’t have the choice to put him on any machines, they could just use his blood to save the life of his wife and son. Simple, right? Not so much, but still a very beautiful and sad story.

Thank goodness there was Mina’s patient, who provided a few lighter moments. The whole Spider Man thing was great, as was Mina softening up a little bit. We are continuing to learn more and more about these characters and every bit makes them more intriguing. From Cole’s battle with drugs to Ben’s loss of his wife and child, there’s a lot more to this group of doctors than first meets the eyes.

My favorite bits….

Cole standing in line with all the kids for his candy. It seemed silly until he mentioned that it was keeping him clean. Good for him.

Army ants to close a wound? *shivers*

Lily reluctantly admitting that Cole’s method of filing patient records by village because so many people have the same name, was pretty smart.

Ryan noting how ridiculous it was that Tommy was taking off his shirt to move a log. Subtle, dude.

Zita correctly interpreting Cole’s kiss as a statement, not a question.

Mina describing a pork sandwich as a “brain cyst on a bun.” Eeeeew.

Mina not even bothering to hide her joy at a patient literally falling in front of her feet.

Cole reminding Mina that rather than concentrating on why the jolt didn’t kill the man, they should keep him that way.

Ben pretending that he’d spoken to the woman’s husband to calm her down.

Giggling at the guy saying he was like Peter Parker with no spider powers.

Ben ordering Ryan and Tommy to keep the father alive so that his wife and son could live.

Thinking for a second there that Tommy was going to have another patient on his hands when Ryan ran out in front of the car.

Feeling shocked when the mother asked them to give her baby the blood but not herself. I’m sorry but that’s ridiculous, deciding that your child is better off with no parents? Come on, lady! Think of your baby.

Mina figuring out that the reason her patient didn’t die when he was shocked was because his heart hadn’t been beating at the time. Okay, that’s pretty freaking awesome.

Tommy telling Cindy that she should let her husband save her because all he wanted was to be a dad and he was doing that. OMG, that killed me.

Finding out that Charlie’s crush was on Lily. Aw, too cute.

Mina and Charlie going to find “Peter Parker’s” girl. So awesome.

Ryan telling Lily that Ben had lost his wife and child. Wow, I didn’t expect that.

Ben calling Ryan by his (I assume) wife’s name.
