CHASE “Narco Part 2″ Review

Chase (NBC) Narco Part 2

CHASE “Narco Part 2″ Season 1 Episode 13 – Chase creator Jennifer Johnson once described Annie and her team as a family, with Annie and Jimmy as either mom and dad or brother and sister, depending on the situation. Tonight we got to see how this family reacts when one of their own is taken away.

At the end of the episode, Jimmy claimed that he had no regrets for anything that he did. I believe that he meant that, even despite doing things like kidnapping one man and turning him over to the Satevo cartel so that they could beat information out of him, then basically doing the same thing himself with Cordova to find out where Annie was and finally accepting help from the Satevo cartel to arrest Cordova. What I have to wonder though is whether or not he will feel the same way down the line when this comes back to bite him in the ass because, well, doesn’t it always? Not that I’m sorry he did any of the things he did.

Meanwhile Annie was her usual badass self in this episode. I like how the tables were turned for a bit, making Annie into a fugitive herself for a little while, using knowledge gained from chasing many others to stay alive. Tossing Annie across the border was clever, too. If she’d been anywhere in the states, once she had knocked out the bad guy she would have been safe. By having her in Mexico, the danger was dialed up quite a few notches and made it that much more exciting.

My favorite bits…

Annie managing to break the nose of one of her kidnappers. Good girl!

The fact that Annie didn’t just meekly let herself be put into her cell, but fought and kicked the whole way.

Not being able to help the evil laugh that escaped me when Jimmy punched the little punk in the nose that Annie had already broke.

Feeling as nauseous as Annie looked when they threw the guy in with the tiger. Cruelty for both man and beast.

Annie finding out that O’Neill’s son had been kidnapped, explaining why he’d been giving away info to Cordova.

Appreciating the Reservoir Dogs-esque moment when Jimmy and Marco opened the trunk with the kidnapper in it.

Annie asking Tim if he had been walking around his cell to stretch his legs like she told him. I just love that they thought of a little detail like that.

Finding out that Marco never told the truth about his old partner to protect the guy’s family.

Jimmy and Marco holding Cordova captive in a bathroom.

Annie being forced to hold a gun on an innocent man.

Finding the conversation between the cops and the guy behind the counter a lot more nerve-wracking because I couldn’t understand a word they were saying. I’m sure that was done on purpose.

Annie’s relief when she saw that the phone was working. Gotta admit, I breathed a sigh of relief with her.

The look on Jimmy’s face when they told her Annie was on the phone.

Annie reminding Jimmy that the days she had been gone weren’t vacation days.

Annie having to tell the truth to Tim about his father.

Annie admitting to Jimmy that they nearly did lose her.

Jimmy claiming no regrets for anything he did to get Annie back.

Well, you know my friend and I are Jannie shippers. So all the “Jimmy wants to save Annie!”, we saw what we wanted to, hahaha. I did notice that the writers are working to make Natalie more likable, I think. (by having her talk less?) Quote from our text-session last night:

Jimmy: “My love for Annie is the most important thing” (I’m pretty sure that’s what he said after the scene ended, hahaha.

But, I still think they’re shooting the Jannie relationship romantically. At the reunited part, sunset, long hug, hair stroking. No male/female friends are comfortable enough to cross into the romantic territory without a romance actually occurring. Just saying.

I did rewatch Nico Part 1 yesterday, since I didn’t really understand it first time around.

LOL! You are so right about everyone seeing what they wanted to see. I think the Jannie fans will always see those “Jannie moments” no matter what. Just because I don’t think that’s where they are going, doesn’t mean it couldn’t be true. So we’ll all just have to see what happens. ;o)

While I did like this episode, I was actually a little uncomfortable. I really don’t want a “Jannie” situation. Leave him with Natalie and happy with her. I’m hoping that Jimmy and Annie have a brother and sister relationship and I don’t think that line has been crossed with what they have shown so far.

Also, am I the only one who was kind of with Luke? When you are paid to uphold the law shouldn’t you be able to be trusted? Where is the line that makes it OK to go around beating people up? Does the end really justify the means?

I think Annie could have been rescued without having to resort to beating up and siding with drug cartels.

However, thanks for blogging. Always appreciated.

No doubt this episode was intended to stir up lots of feelings about right and wrong, and it sure did that for me, too. Not sure I think Jimmy was right, but if he hadn’t done what he did, would she have been killed? Ugh, it’s enough to make me spin.

I’m still seeing Annie and Jimmy as brother and sister and like you, I still don’t see they’ve crossed that line yet. I like Natalie and I hope they keep them together.

I loved it. This is a great show. The whole team is badass. Hope NBC renews!

This was a very intriguing episode. It had its ups and downs, its goods and bads. I liked the way they created tension within the team by pitting Luke against Jimmy and Marco. Although they did raise questions of right and wrong, I was excited to see just how closely knit this team is and just how far they would go for each other. However, I must say I was a bit sad to see that Luke had to be the one who went against the team. Although it makes sense, I was hoping that he would become a more integrated part of the team instead of being excluded and possibly tagged as an outsider of the group.

The writers did a good job staying true to Annie’s character. She fought the whole way through and they added suspense by challenging her to escape back across the border with a teenager in tow. That being said (or written, lol) I would’ve liked a bit more interaction between Annie and her kidnappers in the show. They built up the suspense throughout the whole epsidoe and I was really looking forward to a final stand between Annie and her kidnappers that lasted a bit but I suppose time was short.

The rescue for Annie let me down just a bit. After all that Jimmy (and the team, of course) had done to try to find and rescue Annie, I was expecting Jimmy to lead her rescue operation and save her when she was cornered in the house. I also must admit, I wasn’t too excited by the fact that Hector Torres and his crew were taken down so easily after they’d been a huge threat throughout both episodes but again, the writers only had so much time to work with.

All in all, I though the writers did a good job and they had me on the edge of my seat the entire time so I commend them for that. I also wish them luck. This was a very hard episode to pull off, I’m sure but the next one has big expectations as well. The follow-up to “Narco, Part 2″, “Father Figure” has a lot of questions to answer and a lot of issues to address. It is a very important episode that I am excited to see and have high hopes for.

Thanks for the blog. I look forward to seeing another one.

Great insight on the episode! I agree with you on just about everything. It’s so sad to know that they’ve pulled it from the schedule but I’m still hopeful that we’ll get to see the last five eps that haven’t aired yet. Especially “Father Figure” which looked like it was going to answer a lot of questions about Annie.
