Episode Synopsis: SOUTHLAND “Code Four” Season 3 Episode 4 – John teaches Ben several key tips to being a police officer, including the proper ways to make a death notification and arrest a suspected drug user. Sammy stays with Nate’s family while he sorts out how his marital problems. Lydia and Josie handle a drug-related murder case with an unorthodox suspect.

I love this show! I do not watch much of anything that is on TV because most of it is all fluff and no substance. Southland is a show that is surreal in it’s sense of portraying the realism of the lives of Police Officers in L.A. I don’t care at times for the language and moral incongruity that is replete throughout the show BUT that is real life on the streets! And yes, the ending hit me like a left hook I did not see coming. I really liked Kevin Alejandro’s character. The senseless of the incident and his very untimely death was admittedly very emotional! I hope the bastard that killed him gets the same amount of violence done to him in a future episode. Great storytelling – great show! The best crime drama to come along in over a decade!

Nate was one of the bright spots of the show that you could look towards for moral balance: good man, heart in the right place, family man, looked out for his partner and tried to reach back and look out for his community. Audience and fans geniuely liked him – killing off his charecter was absolutly the right thing to do. It was border line brilliant. It leaves you feeling like, “wow..that’s so F*cked up.” Absoultly the right tone for Southland. Ben’s partner said it best, the universe is a cruel place, and so are the mean streets of Southland. I look forward to seeing if and how the scales are balanced. I’m gonna run out and get the boxed set.
