We may get to see Wonder Woman on the small screen again after all. TVLine.com reports that David E. Kelley’s WONDER WOMAN pilot has been picked up by NBC, just weeks after it was announced the project had been shelved. Despite interest, NBC initially had postponed the project, citing reasons of high cost and the inability to commit to this cost. But now Bob Greenblatt is in place as NBC’s new entertainment chairman, and has given the green light for the reboot.
According to Deadline.com, Kelley stated about the postponement that “I’m confident it will still happen. It’s a very complicated piece, which is the most fun thing about it.” Kelly’s version of the new Wonder Woman (aka Diana Prince) is described as a vigilante crime fighter in L.A., a modern woman who is a successful corporate executive trying to balance her dual life.
Off the record: If I’m not mistaken, recent attempts to adapt the iconic character of Wonder Woman to live-action film or TV have all failed and remain in “development hell”. It’s gutsy (or perhaps foolish) of NBC and David E. Kelly to make the attempt. Still I am curious as to what “a very complicated piece” will end up being like on air.
