Well if this works out, us fans of Jeffrey Dean Morgan (or “JDM” as he’s known by me and my friends) could be looking at some good news.
According Deadline.com, the star is in final negotiations to play the lead in Starz’s upcoming 10-episode drama series MAGIC CITY. The series is set in Miami during the late 19050′s to early 1960′s and chronicles the collision of mobsters, politicians and entertainers at the first preeminent Miami hotel just as Fidel Castro takes control of Cuba and shuts down Havana as a gambling haven. The series centers on a suave Jewish-American man (Morgan, in a role that sounds like it was made for him) who builds the hotel. Along the way he also makes some strange bedfellows and many powerful enemies.
Magic City was created by Mitch Glazer who executive produces with Geyer Kosinski and Tony To, with production reportedly slated to begin shortly in Miami for a 2012 premiere.
Morgan once had recurring roles on two shows at once – one on Grey’s Anatomy as heart transplant patient Denny Duquette who had a relationship with Izzie (Katherine Heigl), and the other on Supernatural as the mysterious father of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles). I’m still hoping against hope that he’ll come back to Supernatural one day. Yes I know his character died, but hey so did his character on Grey’s and that didn’t seem to stop him.
JDM has recently starred in features like Watchmen and The Losers and has reportedly just signed to star in Lionsgate’s horror thriller Dibbuk Box (produced by Sam Raimi) and wrapped the indies The Fields and Peace, Love, & Misunderstanding.
