Queen B is preparing for the end of her reign. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leighton Meester plans to leave the CW’s hit drama GOSSIP GIRL in two years.
Gossip Girl is currently in its fourth season with Meester contracted to play Blair Waldorf through the sixth season and while she enjoys working on the show and living in New York, she wants to explore other projects.
When E! Online asked Meester when she thought the show itself would end, she didn’t know but seemed to think the show shouldn’t continue indefinitely, saying, “I think there’s that old saying about wanting to go out on top.”
Meester’s statement comes as her movie career is heating up. She can be seen with Gwyneth Paltrow and Garrett Hedlund in Country Strong, which begins its theatrical run January 7 and she has three other films due for release in 2011: Monte Carlo, Oranges, and The Roommate.
