New BBC One drama JUSTICE has set its cast and begun filming in Liverpool. Justice follows the story of a fictional local community justice center and its mysterious judge, Patrick Coburn (Bob Pugh, Dr. Who, West is West), seen by the community as either a liberal lefty or a power-crazed despot. Established prosecutor Joe Spencer (Gary Mavers, Casualty, Peak Practice) is his right-hand man. With his connections and tough reputation, he is instrumental in getting the local community to trust the Judge.
Gillian Kearney (Casualty) will play Louise Campbell, a bright, local reporter, keen to make a name for herself and uncover the truth behind the Judge’s secret past. Jake Abrahams (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) will portray Jake Little, a small-time, well-connected career criminal. Christine Tremarco (Moving On), Jodie Comer (Holby City), Ellie Paskell (Waterloo Road), Carolin Stoltz (Emmerdale), Tom Georgeson (Bleak House), and Derek Barr (Casualty) will also appear.
Each episode of the five-part drama will feature its own case and guest stars and will tackle issues ranging from prostitution to shoplifting. Meanwhile, the Judge and his revolutionary center will be under threat from within, with the judicial establishment, who wants their power back, seeing the center as a money drain. Will the Judge and his team be able to keep the wolves at bay?
Justice is expected to premiere on BBC One Daytime next spring. It will be accompanied by Neighbourhood Blues, a new observational documentary series following the work of a new taskforce tasked with tackling the enduring problem of housing estate crime.
