NCIS: LOS ANGELES “Absolution” Review

NCIS: LOS ANGELES (CBS) Absolution

NCIS: LOS ANGELES “Absolution” Season 2 Episode 9 – Everyone on this show has their mysteries and, while we’ve tapped into a few, Hetty has remained so far an untouched enigma. Her diminutive size belies the fierce agent and strong leader underneath. In this episode we got to see some clues as to what she was like before being put in charge of the merry band of misfits she leads today.

With a drawer full of I. D.’s, we’re still not even sure that Hetty is actually “Hetty”. When she went to visit Cole for the first time as his wife “Sylvia”, I didn’t know which one was the cover. As it turns out, the wife part was a cover, but the name Sylvia has been around for at least twenty years. A really old alias or perhaps her real name? I wonder if we’ll ever know.

As Hetty pointed out, she’s not alone and I did enjoy seeing how much the team cares for her, especially Callen. Those two share a very strong bond that allows them to each know when the other is in trouble and act accordingly. One of these days I’d love to see or hear more about how they met.

Overall I enjoyed this episode with all its old-school references and I found the storyline very easy to follow. In fact the whole thing was wrapped up so nicely in the end that when Hetty found Cole dead and the words “To Be Continued..” drifted across my tv screen, I was happily surprised. I’m excited to see what the next episode in this two-parter brings us.

My favorite bits…

Nell not knowing what Mr. Microphone was. Oh c’mon! I have only four words to that – best Christmas present ever!

Sam rubbing his sweaty self all over Callen’s nice seats. LOL.

Kensi’s little victory arms after she gave the yoga girls a good show. That’s what Deeks gets for asking her to be his wingman.

Okay seriously, is there anywhere in this town where Eric CAN’T find a camera? It’s making me nervous to leave my house now.

Callen telling the dogs to come out with their hands up and then Sam telling them they were “good doggies”… right before they both had to run for their lives.

Really wanting to visit the Pacific Design Center now. That place looks freaking awesome.

The way Eric wrinkled his nose when Nell talked about entrails.

Deeks telling Kensi she was more sassy than classy.

Deeks calling out “M-O-U-S-E” during the alphabet soup shouting match with the fake NSA guys. LOL.

Callen and Sam figuring out who “Sylvia” was when Cole described her as a “vicious pixie”.

All of the boys agreeing that it would have been better if Kensi had pistol-whipped the guy across the face.

Hetty yelling “bugger!” when Callen opened the door to the closet.

The smile from Hetty when Callen said he didn’t think there was anyone better than her. Aw.

Eric losing track of Hetty because “she’s like a ninja”.

Hetty’s ultra-cool response to finding out that she was being held for ransom. Man, she’s as cool as they come. It must be all that yoga. I think I need to take up yoga.

The entire team coming out of the woodwork to save Hetty, despite how hard she tried to keep them away.

Deeks’ “gesundheit” joke actually working the third time.

The whole group making plans to go out for drinks. Just once though, I’d actually like the see some of their off-duty shenanigans.

Callen getting all protective and telling Hetty he was reluctant to let her out of his sight.

Hetty’s façade seeming ready to break after she found Cole dead.

What did you think of this episode of NCIS: Los Angeles? Were you intrigued to find out more about Hetty’s past? Got any favorite bits or least favorite bits of your own? I’d love to hear from you!
