EASTBOUND & DOWN “Chapter 12″ Season 2 Episode 6 – And the La Flama Blanca returns – as did Pat Anderson, the man who crushed Kenny’s dreams last season! Pat is ready to leave rehab and start apologizing for all his nastiness while hooked on the good stuff in “Chapter 12″ of EASTBOUND & DOWN. First, he admits sleeping with his friend’s (played by Jody Hill himself) wife in front of his sister. Next stop is Mexico to get Kenny back in the game and Kenny is ready and waiting for him. Since the search for Sanchez ended, Kenny and Stevie are ripe to get back to America and make some trouble there. Kenny wants to believe this time, so he sets out to play one last game with the Charros to get a scout interested in his game. He promises no gimmicks this time and wants to make him and the team proud. His playing gets the scout (Matthew MacCaughney) Pat brought down excited about the prospect of him once again playing in America, but first he’ll have to start from the bottom all over again. Kenny doesn’t seem to care as long as it means he’ll play.
This episode was a bit lukewarm, but it achieved its main goal of setting up the next part of the Kenny Powers story. Since the show was picked up for another season, we know that Kenny will be working extra hard in America – be it on a baseball team or trying to get with April. And Stevie’s new wife trying to get acclimated in the states will be hysterical. Hopefully Kenny’s return to America will also mean more Adam Scott on this show, as he just nails bad guys every which way. His teaming up with Kenny on his hopeful return to greatness, or at least averageness, will be worth tuning into the show.
The trip to Mexico was most certainly important for the evolution of the show and its characters and it lead to some pretty funny moments, but all in all I am very excited about Kenny returning to his roots. The charm of Kenny is the fact that he knows he is a loser, his family and friends know it too, but he has worked his entire life at proving to himself that he actually isn’t. His one time with fame used to do the job, but since everything came tumbling down after he lost his major league contract, Kenny has been searching for his meaning once again. I can only imagine his return to his hometown to get April again will be a big fail, but I can not wait to watch it.
