THE GOOD GUYS “The Whistleblower” Season 1 Episode 15 - Jack and Dan are both too close to cases because of Liz and Ana in the “The Whistleblower” episode of THE GOOD GUYS when they investigate a peeping Tom and a murdering Jane
The cases tonight are a little weak, but they’re also not the point. I called yoga guy as the peeping Tom right off, but the payoff of Julius’ scream and Ana’s ass-kicking is more than worth any predictability. As far as the three wannabe whistleblower/profiteers are concerned, Theo with his “Whatever. I hate this job and I love money, so I’m in” is my favorite, but has there ever been a more inept cleaner? It’s always nice to see Jere Burns, and he’s very good as the slimy Patrick Drayton who has quite the anger management issue. I like how he and Dan play off each other. “May I have a word with you, your wealthiness?”
So that’s the Kyle we’ve heard so much about. I wish he were a little less slimy and a little more likeable because watching Liz initially buy his load of garbage made me want Jack to run very far away from her. The dude hid in a closet, for the love of goodness–did he have to be a caricature? That said, there is some great Jack and Dan interaction because of him. The exception to the working best when too invested in the case rule is the “Liz will never sleep with you clause,” “Do you think it’s because he knows you know he’s curling your ladylove’s toes?,” and “You’ve found enough evidence to convict Kyle in any court in this country of having repetitive sexual contact with your ladylove” are especially hilarious. The end scene with Liz, Jack, and Corky the pig corkscrew is sweet, but I don’t know–something about how the Kyle thing is handled leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I’m sure I’ll get over it, but for now, I’m ambivalent over any Jack-Liz relationship.
On the other hand, the Dan-Ana relationship fascinates me. Dan is obviously attracted to pretty much every woman, but he is especially protective of Ana. His description of her getting out of the shower is priceless as he gets lost in his own little world for a few moments. “Where was the towel? Are we talking headlights or was he able to check under the hood?” Um, ew. Dan parking his “aluminum cradle of love” at Ana’s house and giving her a perv whistle, which she promptly blows in his face is priceless, I love the station’s applause after Dan gives her back her command, and I think I could totally ship Julius and “LT.”
Randomly: Bradley Whitford sells the “When night falls, I’ll be right outside watching–for that peeping Tom” line and I love him barbecuing at the end with his dog on his shoulder. My favorite moment of the night is when “dead” Mr. Wallace pops up. “Zombie! Shoot him in the head!” So awesome. Samantha, who apparently can do everything, is a great addition to the show so far. Love how she’s as turned on as Dan by her sketch of murdering Jane as sexy nurse. “Matrix of sexual deviancy.” Heh.
“Whistleblower” isn’t my favorite episode of The Good Guys, but it’s still pretty darn good. I’m glad to dispose of Kyle, even as I wish we had never actually met him. There are plenty of funny moments even if the cases are less than riveting, and I vote for many more scenes with the core cast (including Samantha and especially Julius) hanging out together.
What did you think of the episode? Anyone else feeling sparks between Ana and Julius or am I all alone there?
