SUPERNATURAL “You Can’t Handle the Truth” Season 6 Episode 6 – You know, I’m aware that our boys are known for getting themselves into mountains of trouble but man alive, are they doing it up right this time. In this episode they’re on the hunt for what’s making people kill themselves and come across the Goddess of Truth herself, Veritas, who’s getting tributes from all the carnage she’s wreaking.
After last week’s little adventure, Dean knows that Sam let him get turned by a vampire and needless to say he’s not feeling overly trusting of his brother. I never thought I’d hear the words “my skin crawls being in the same room with him” come from Dean’s mouth, but there they were and I was sad to hear them.
In true Winchester style, Dean ends up getting cursed and decides it’s high time he gets the truth out of Sam. After testing it out on Bobby to some pretty hilarious (albeit uncomfortable for Dean) results, he sets his sights on Sam. He was practically gleeful at the idea that he was going to finally find out what was going on and when Sam was able to lie, I was not only shocked but saddened – because for a little while there, Dean believed Sam and he actually started to trust his brother again. That is until they got caught by Veritas and she announced that Sam isn’t human and is able to fend off her powers.
After Sam confessed to everything – admitting why he let Dean get turned and how he’s been feeling since he got back – and Dean beat him to a bloody pulp in response.. I could only sit and watch in horror. That was probably one of the hardest scenes I’ve ever had to endure on this show, and that’s saying something.
Now I know that not everyone watches the previews so I’m not going to say anything about what some of us already know about next week’s episode and what is really going on with Sam. I’ll just talk about what we know from this one, and from this one we just know that Sam realizes there is something different about him, something that makes him a great hunter because nothing scares him anymore, not even the idea of his brother getting killed or turned into a vampire. It makes me wonder though; does a lack of fear make for a good hunter? I don’t know about that. Seems like you should care for the people you’re saving if you’re gonna do a good job of protecting them.
Speaking of which, I think it’s interesting how Dean’s become the caring one of the pair. He’s got the life that Sam wanted back in the very beginning of the series when he was just a college kid getting ready to propose to his girlfriend. Dean is the one with that life now, but he’s also discovering that it’s not that easy. I’m really hoping they don’t just get rid of Lisa and Ben because I’m really liking this family-man thing Dean’s got going. It’s adding a lot more depth to his character. Does that mean I think it should be easy for them? Heck no. If everything were lollipops and rainbows all the time, this would be one boring show.
Overall this was a pretty shocking episode. The tone of the series is definitely changing and I for one am totally loving it so far. If anything I’m more into this series now than I was back when I got hooked in Season Two. Bring on the angst and bring it on hard, I’m ready.
A few of my favorite bits…
Bobby telling Dean “don’t shoot him yet” while they were discussing what to do with Sam.
Bobby giving Dean the worst case scenario – that it was just Sam.
Dean clarifying that it was the “non sexy” form of drilling that one man did to kill another. LOL!
Cas pouring Dean another drink. Such a simple little gesture but it spoke volumes. I could see that he really wanted to help but really didn’t know how.
Wondering what regrettable things were now required of Cas.
Cas’ “everywhere” when Dean asked him where he’d looked for the horn.
Dean leaning back to get another look at the chick’s boobs. Haha, that’s my Dean.
Pretty much everything that came out of Bobby’s mouth when Dean decided to test his theory.
Bobby telling Dean that he was his favorite. That was so awesome.
Wondering what Bobby’s first girlfriend was that made Dean hang up the phone that fast.
Groaning when Lisa called at the absolute worst time.
Not wanting to know where Sam got the dog’s blood from either.
Practically losing my dinner when Veritas ate the dude’s tongue.
What did you think of this episode of Supernatural? Got any favorite bits or least favorite bits of your own? I’d love to hear from you!
