New Episodes Ordered For ABC Shows

Detroit 1-8-7 Pilot

ABC has been busy sorting out their fall schedule this week. First they canceled The Whole Truth, and now they’ve ordered additional episodes of four of their primetime shows—No Ordinary Family, Brothers & Sisters, Detroit 1-8-7, and Better With You.

It’s really good news for new series No Ordinary Family and Better With You, which each received full season orders. Michael Chiklis and Julie Benz star as the heads of the supernatural Powell family in the hourlong drama No Ordinary Family. Better With You is a comedy about three couples in various stages of their romantic relationships, and it stars Jennifer Finnigan and JoAnna Garcia.

Another new series, Detroit 1-8-7, is getting five more episodes (for a total of 18). Detroit 1-8-7 stars Michael Imperioli as a Detroit Homicide detective, and the show is shot entirely in Michigan.

ABC also bumped returning series Brothers & Sisters from 18 to 22 episodes. When ABC only ordered 18 episodes of the show last year, rumors swirled that the show was on the verge of cancellation. By bringing up their order to a full 22 episodes, ABC seems to be giving Brothers & Sisters a vote of confidence.

I’m pretty happy that Detroit 1-8-7, my favorite new show of the season, has been given more episodes. It’s not a full season pickup, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will happen. What do you think of this news? Do you watch any of these shows?

Wow! “Better With You” made it? I can understand because of the slim pickin’s this season, but come on! Its an awful show with a lack luster cast. No more ABC Wed nights for me.

Detroit 1-8-7 is my favorite new show of the season, too, so I’ve been pulling for it to have higher numbers each week, and had my fingers crossed more episodes would be ordered. After NBC nuked Southland and Mercy, two other well-written shows, I don’t expect much from the networks, but perhaps ABC will let this one hang in there and develop the audience it richly deserves. [Btw - I'm grateful to TNT for rescuing Southland - if only it had also replaced HawthoRNe with Mercy!]

I am happy about Better With You and Detroit 187, especially because I review them both, but also because I like them. Detroit 187 is getting better by leaps and bounds and I just find Better With You fun.
