DETROIT 187 “Lost Child/Murder 101″ Review

DETROIT 187 "Lost Child/Murder 101"

DETROIT 187 “Lost Child/Murder 101″ Season 1 Episode 6 – This week’s episode of Detroit 187 had Longford and Mahajan investigating a drug induced murder perpetrated by two brilliant college students while the rest of the squad focused on the murder of a woman who was funneling neglected children out of the foster system and into better homes.

This was definitely the most moving epsiode of Detroit 187 yet. In fact, for me it was one of the most moving episodes of TV I have seen in a while. The last two scenes were completely heartwrenching. First, Fitch declines Sanchez’s offer to go out for a drink when it is quite clear he is head over heels for her. I immediately knew that he must be doing something very important to ditch out like that. Still, my heart tugged a bit when I saw the pause and the conflict on his face when he had to say no. Then, when we follow Fitch to his destination, to deliver Finley, the little girl that was at the center of the ex social worker’s murder, to the couple that the woman intended to take her, my heart my have exploded. It was evident that Fitch was conflicted about what he was doing. Although his ways can be a bit rogue, he is still a detective and a cop so it must have taken a lot for him to arrange something that was clearly illegal. It also must have taken a lot for him to not to tell Sanchez about it as she was visibly upset about Finley’s future. Does anyone else think that there is a giant backstory in Fitch’s life and that children are involved? He seems very comfortable around them, more so than with adults.

What I didn’t like was that by turning down Sanchez, Fitch left a little crack open and it was wide enough for Stone to slide right in. Stone does not seem to have the depth that Fitch has. I don’t want to say he is just a pretty face, but he needs a little polishing. Perhaps yelling at the woman who took a beating at the hands of her brother to save the life of Finley and her children isn’t the best way to go about getting information. Is anyone else disappointed that a Stone/Sanchez hook up may be in the show’s future?

I truly think the writers are listening to the feedback from the viewers as it appears that they address major concerns. For example, we got a lot more scenery of the Detroit area such as flashes of the city and different landmarks rather than just the building that the detectives are going to be in at the time. I enjoyed that. The writers also seem to address other issues such as Mahajan’s Armani suits. I know I am not the only one that commented that it seemed a bit too much for a detective to constantly wear $300 suits. Sure enough, Longford also commented about the inability to afford such suits. However, we find out through psycho college girl killer that perhaps the suits are not truly Armanis, but knockoffs. Did that girl see right through Mahajan or what? Now I am interested to know what in his past has led up to the need to pretend to be something he is not. Finally, there were a lot less chases this episode. There were no car chases and I am not even sure that the foot chase counted since the poor perp could barely run.

What did you think of tonight’s episode of Detroit 187? I am still loving how the writers take a murder storyline and twist it and turn it until, in the end, it barely resembles what the detectives first thought of it. Tell us what you thought of this episode in the comments below.

I adore this series and the cast is nop notch in my book especially Michael Imperoli who brings so much to the character of Fitch.

I hated that Sanchez decided to go with Stone after Fitch told her he had something to do.

I feel the same way about Fitch that his backstory must be something else and I cannot wait to see it.

I know Sanchez really needed a drink but I don’t want to see her and Stone hook up. I am just not feeling it.

I think it was the best show yet, it just keeps getting better and better. Sorta like all the characters falling in to place and also “showing” the human side of them, good or bad or in between.

I agree with you on how the writers take a story and put in all the twists and turns and yet can still surprise you.

My DH figured out right away that the “Girls” did it and I thought so too, and I like how they played it out to lead up to “Psycho Girl” and why they did it -

Your DH is a pretty smart man. I didn’t figure it out until the one collapsed in the library. Who practically faints in tears when the cops question them unless they are guilty?

I am liking this show more and more and this was the best one yet. The last scene was truly moving.

      Me too, Matt!

I like this show, hope they keep it. I like Sanchez and Stone, I know Fitch likes her but I actually prefer Stone.

We might have to start a Team Fitch/Team Stone as it relates to Sanchez :) I hope they keep this show too.

Yes, the episode, “Lost Child/Murder 101″ has been a highlight
    of this new series.
Why? This program is definitely different–it is QUALITY due to its combined acting, writing, and directing talents.
Imperioli’s leading character, Detective Fitch, is a complicated man because he has lived and experienced life. He has hidden scars, yet he is no talking head. He knows the system and how to survive in it, while not drawing undue attention to himself.
A peek into his private world is revealed in each episode. For example, in this episode, he was playing “peep eye” with a small child, much to her delight. This simple little exercise, it has been discovered, actually promotes memory retention in early childhood, plus it also shows Fitch’s ability to relate to little people.
All of the characters in this series face daily struggles, as their real-life counterparts do all over the world: they are the mediums between public reality at its worst, and the vastly overworked, imperfect social systems which employ them.
How does one relate/communicate, solve problems (not of one’s making), and yet overcome all of the daily headaches and ordeals?
This is three times better than Castle because it’s a great deal more complex and challenging. The public loves puzzles. This series is 24k. ABC is slowly releasing its potential. Go for it!

It really is a quality show and the quality grows with every episode. Hopefully ABC knows what a goldmine it is sitting on.

I absolutely love Detroit 187! It is the best cop show on TV since NYPD Blue. The latest episode blew me away with the ending. I cannot stop talking about it.

I hope the writers keep up the good work. I would not change a thing. It is the best show on TV right now.

Caroline, that ending was very thought provoking. I cannot stop thinking about it and all of the details and ramifications. So moving!
