CHASE “Havoc” Review

Chase - Kelli Giddish as Annie Frost

CHASE “Havoc” Season 1 Episode 6 – In this episode Enver Gjokaj (who I adored on Dollhouse) plays Carson Puckett, a man who’s planting bombs all over town. He’s not killing randomly, but choosing his victims because they all had a hand in trying to convince him that he wasn’t sick. Working on construction sites, he’s going blind from methanol poisoning and wants revenge against those that refused to help him.

Meanwhile everyone has been telling Annie that she’s been taking too many chances. When she goes too far and really gets hurt this time, she has to face being out of control and, worse yet, feeling vulnerable. Ben is there to help her through it though and the two of them begin to grow closer.

Jimmy steps up to lead the team while Annie is in the hospital, tracking Puckett down to a rail yard where he’s planted a bomb on a train and is trying to get it driven downtown so he can take out even more victims. The entire team has to work together and manage to get everyone out safely.

My favorite bits…

The fugitive jumping right onto a boat with a bounty hunter on it. Oops.

Jimmy still trying to convince Annie that risking her own life actually risks the rest of the team because he’ll always go after her and if he goes down, Marco will come for the both of them and so on and so on.

Annie getting caught red-handed carrying Ben’s cell phone and her little embarrassed smile proving she does have some feelings for the bounty hunter.

The leader of the group telling Annie that anger was Puckett’s philosophy. Oh boy, that sounds like a scary guy.

The little girl giving Puckett attitude.

Wondering why Puckett needed the kids to tell him what they were seeing in the window.

Annie coming up with the answer of what was going on with Puckett while in an MRI machine.

Ben talking Annie down and making her stay in the machine so that the docs could get a look inside her head and make sure she was okay.

Daisy pulling out her earwig so that she could ignore Jimmy’s orders to leave and keep on working on the bomb.

Jimmy showing the father the cooler that had a bomb in it for his daughter and finally getting the truth out of the man.

Jimmy making an incredible shot by throwing the bomb into another railcar.

Actually being shocked when Luke took the head shot – it happened so fast.

Jimmy texting Annie to tell her they “got him good”.

The look on Jimmy’s face when he saw Annie coming out of the hospital with Ben. Now, personally I don’t think it has anything to do with him having feelings for her. If he’s jealous it’s only of her getting close to someone else while they are still having troubles amongst the team.

Overall I’m not sure how I’m feeling about the tension that’s growing amongst the team on Chase. I’m all for drama, but I think it might be a little too soon for them to be going through something like this. I feel like we didn’t get enough time with them being together and now I can only see them as a team that squabbles. Once again though, I really liked the guest star fugitive and Enver did a fantastic job this week as their angry bomber.

What did you think of the episode? Got any favorite bits or least favorite bits of your own? I’d love to hear from you!

It was Luke who shot Puckett in the head not Marco. That’s why he looked so sick

  • Christine

Daisy and Luke are definitely getting a thing going right?

first of all I really really love this show and I don’t understand all the bad critism it’s getting. Not necessarily on this website but lots of pilot reviews I read were not that positive. Here’s me hoping NBC will give this show a chance.
    Masochist? Yes I am. ;)

I’m intruiged to know more about Annie’s past. Is she ever going to hunt down her own dad? How long has the team been together? We hardly know anything about any of them.

I agree with the recapper/reviewer that any romance developments within the team would be way too soon. At least not in the first 2 seasons. Let us get to know the team as people who respect each other and are ‘work friends’.

However, the writers said they will NEVER work with the Annie/Jimmy chemistry in a romantic way?
Sorry but my shipping heart just broke a bit. ;)

Can you give us the source material on the anti jimmy/annie writers? Sorry, but if I’m going to give up on a ship, I’m going to need conclusive evidence!

  • Eve

Totally agree Lauren. I’m not ready to give up on Jimmy/Annie. We need proof!
