Eastbound & Down “Chapter 11″ Season 2 Episode 5 – Well it would have been too easy if Kenny’s reunion with his father had actually been heartfelt and warm, right? This lukewarm episode of EASTBOUND & DOWN helped us solve another part of the “how did Kenny Powers get this messed up” riddle. After reuniting with Eduardo (Don Johnson), we find out that he not only ran away from Kenny and his mom to Mexico, but in fact started a new life, and family, down there. He has a wife and a son and hasn’t seemed to miss Kenny all that much. But that didn’t stop the father and son pair from attempting to out dick each other when making fun of Stevie and comparing jet skis to boats and planes. And it seemed somehow that Kenny’s time in Mexico could cow to a happy ending – that is until Eduardo set him and Stevie up to get caught by the police to score the bounty on them as they are fugitives. Unfortunately, the bounty doesn’t exist and now neither does a father and son relationship. After Stevie and Kenny are free thanks to Kenny’s creepy and rich stepmother, they decide to get the hell out of dodge and head back to the US of A. And since now Kenny knows April is actually not married, Kenny leaves her a message let her know he’s “coming for her.”
This episode was lukewarm mainly for the fact that it was setting the scene for the transitional episode next week. Mexico has surely been a breeding ground of funny for Kenny Powers and Co. But ever since Kenny’s relationship ended and he quit the team there doesn’t seem to be much more that could happen down there. The introduction of Eduardo Sanchez was a perfect chance for all of us to see the wounded Kenny, and this time it’s not just by a picky female. This way we can get all get a way better idea as how to a person become this closed off and completely repugnant. But it was only a matter of time until Kenny got sick of being invisible in Mexico, to the ladies and the fans, and that America would look better and better to him.
Stevie and Kenny heading back to the US will hopefully allow us to see Katy Mixon again, who I adored last season. And I cannot wait to see if Stevie ends up bringing his new lady friend over the border with him. Oh the possibilities an illegal immigrant could bring to this sordid tale. I also wouldn’t mind getting to know the rest of Kenny’s family since we know his brother and dad now. From next week’s clips, it seems Kenny and Stevie will certainly be going with a bang and will be bidding adios to Mexico. One thing is for sure and that is that Kenny’s got baseball fever and I don’t see that ending any time soon. Not sure how he is going to play back in the states, but La Flama Blanca will not be extinguished.
