CSI: MIAMI “Manhunt” Review

CSI: MIAMI (CBS) ManHunt

CSI: MIAMI “Manhunt” Season 9 Episode 4 – CSI: MIAMI continued Sunday with “Manhunt”. Last week, Horatio and crew were left searching for five escaped convicts which is exactly where we pick up this week.

Horatio and Eric have a particular grudge against the episode’s main target- Memmo Fierro (Robert LaSardo)– this prisoner was the cause of Marisol’s (Eric’s sister and Horatio’s wife) death.

I really enjoy how the last two episodes of CSI: Miami have tied back into earlier seasons. As a fan it is always fun to revisit old characters and have those grudges that have festered play out.

Like last week, “Manhunt” had me hooked from the moment the episode began. The story was quick, it kept me engaged, and didn’t waste time with random cut scenes like some episodes of the series tend to do.

The flashback sequences that we WERE shown were just enough to give us, as an audience, the memory jog we needed to know exactly where we knew certain characters from.

Not to mention it made me feel REALLY horrible for Horatio all over again.

In addition to the fast pace of the episode, there were a few “what just happened” moments as well, which I appreciate. I NEVER saw Memmo opening fire inside a hospital, nor did I suspect the motivations of his killings until it was pretty much spelled out for me.

At the end of the day, Horatio once again saves the girl (come on now, we all saw that coming), but we’re still left with Memmo at large.

This begs the question – how is Horatio going to find him? It wasn’t even detective work that led the team to Memmo in this episode; Memmo pretty much just showed up at the scene of the action himself!

While “Manhunt” was good, of course there was the technology that would never happen that fast in real life scene… which I understand that I just need to get over. But since that’s all the negatives that I can think of to mention, “Manhunt” was one of the strongest episodes of this season of CSI: Miami.

I agree; it was a good episode. But a review board should discipline and fire Horatio. He wouldn’t let Eric shoot Memmo, who had murdered five people THAT DAY because it would psychologically traumatize the girl. What is that about? So he lets Memmo drive off with a hostage, who ends up being murdered after Memmo abandons the car. Gross negligence on the part of Horatio!

True. I suppose letting a fugitive go free to spare a little girl isn’t probably the best thing Horatio could’ve done considering Memmo’s track record for killing people for the heck of it.

Yes, the ep was fast-paced and yes there was just enough use of flashbacks and twists and yes, there wasn’t much detective work involved; the latter is why I wasn’t crazy about this ep. As over-the-top as it usually is, there was no (or very little) use of fancy-schmancy technology–just a “coincidence” regarding 2 shards of paper. And I was unsatisfied with the ending; I don’t really care to see Memmo’s character again unless he’s dead.

OKAY! Thank you for saying that about the paper! I wanted to be sure it wasn’t just me that thought NOTHING but a string of coincidences led them to figure out where Memmo was going next. Aside from the scene with the business card, there was NO police work involved!

This ep showed H in the worst possible light. I’d long noted his double standard: He honestly doesn’t seem to care very much when a man is the victim, but let it be a woman or girl and hell hath no fury like Horatio the avenging angel. Despite Delko reiterating that he has a shot, H lets the scumbag go before simperingly reuniting mother and daughter. Meanwhile, the hostage of course is killed, and the vermin is still at large (I guess they needed him for a future episode?) How does Horatio sleep at night, knowing he could have saved the hostage? Or did he feel that the man had it coming?

LOL. I wrote something similar to this (or at least along the same idea) in a previous review. Horatio should just start a foundation for all the children and women that he attempts to save.

And you are absolutely right – he does NOT have the same regard if the victim is male.

Hated this episode. Hate super serial killers. Police know bad guy has radio but don’t disable it. Know bad guy has radio but broadcast their pursue. Come on. They have a clean shot but don’t take condemning the hostage to certain death so they can spare the feelings of Menno’s daughter. Really. I am disgusted with the writers. I may be finished with the show.

All your points are valid, but this is sort of par for the course for Horatio, right? I agree – the writers really need to rethink what story they’re putting together.
