ABC Studios recently released GREY’S ANATOMY: The Complete Sixth Season on DVD titled “More is Better.” When it comes to Grey’s Anatomy, more is definitely better and I don’t think fans could ever get enough “more” of Season Six. It is hard for a TV show to keep its stamina with each season, however, Grey’s Anatomy has done quite well in that department. I would even go far to say that Season Six was one of the best seasons yet. There were so many changes and character driven events. We dealt with Izzy, George, and the merging of Seattle Grace and Mercy West, all culminating into one of the most stressful, amazing, gasp worthy episodes I have seen since the early days of ER.
Bonus Features
What would a DVD be without bonus features? I always expect to find blooper reels, extended scenes and deleted scenes. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find an added bonus feature on this DVD entitled “Seattle Grace: On Call.” It featured 6 webisodes that I never knew existed. Each webisode was only a couple of minutes long, but followed the same story throughout. The webisodes are a fake documentary following the residents and interns of Mercy West after their merger with Seattle Grace. The story centers around the ongoing love triangle of Stephen, Pierce and Megan (all of whom I had actually forgotten about), but also featured other residents such as Reed and Charles. The story takes place entirely in Joe’s bar and was actually a lot of fun. There was even a special guest appearance by Owen who played guitar and sang (for real!). I am really not a big fan of his, but he sure became sexy in that moment.
There were quite a bit of unaired scenes, which are always interesting when you try to figure out why they decided to delete some scenes but keep others in. It also gives you a bit of insight as to parts of the story that you would not otherwise have.
The gag reel, called In Stitches, featured the cast messing up their lines and making a lot of funny faces. It wasn’t as enteraining or as funny as a lot of other bloopers I have seen, but it was worth viewing for the one hilarious scene involving Alex and Meredith.
There were three extended scenes, one of which was the season finale, by far the best episode. I actually liked what they added to it. It showed the effect of Alex’s shooting on Lexi and how Mark was affected by Lexi’s torment. Definitely scenes worth watching.
Finally, there was a special feature entitled “Chandra Wilson: Anatomy of a Talent”, which as the title describes is all about Chandra Wilson. I definitely love me some Miranda Bailey so I was particularly fond of this feature. The cast talked about Chandra, and they showed scenes from the show and scenes from her stint in theater. It also showed Chandra behind-the-scenes as a director. She was the first cast member to direct an episode of Grey’s in 2009 (for which she won an Image award) and directed two of Season 6′s episodes entitled “Push” and “Almost Grown.” It was interesting to hear her talk about her role as a director and an actor, especially when the two roles collide.
If you are a fan of Grey’s Anatomy then you need to add this DVD to your collection (you can buy your copy on Amazon). If not for the amazing season finale, then for the extended version of that episode and other episodes and the fun webisodes “Seattle Grace: On Call.”
