IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA “Dennis Gets Divorced” Review

IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA
Love and marriage are two foreign concepts to the gang at Paddy’s, so I am glad that both seemed to come undone as quickly as they came about on last night’s episode of IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA, “Dennis Gets Divorced.” First, Dennis has to come to terms with his dead-tooth wife not being marriage material for him. The opening scene, where Dennis lets Maureen, his blushing bride in a cat sweatshirt, know he has money for a cab to go home or to work is the most human we have seen the chiseled cheek bar owner. When Maureen proudly declares she is home, that she has no job and she’s all Dennis’, the realization of marriage settles in and he hustles his way to Paddy’s.

While Mac showers at the bar’s sink, Dee comes in and starts bragging about her new car, courtesy of her latest abused boyfriend Bill Ponderosa. The fact that Bill is married with two kids is lost on Dee, but the rest of the gang decides this makes her a slut. Dee dismisses the charge as she isn’t the one with the vows, and Charlie and Frank are confronted with their own marriage mishaps. Dennis requests a bachelor party and the gang heads down to a local strip club to “make it rain.” Uhhh, when did these dudes get money? Strip club leads to a drunken night, and Mac and Dennis fall into their standard routine of shenanigans back at the apartment and were quickly interrupted by its new inhabitant – Maureen. The newlyweds begin to fight until Dennis calls her annoying and strange and declares he wants a divorce. And in perfect Sunny style, Maureen asks the guys to vacate the place and when they won’t she gets all Mark Wahlberg from Fear and beats herself up. Oh the joy that I get when that piece of cinematic genius is referenced.

Charlie and Frank are also dealing with marriage woes and request help from the only lawyer they know, Charlie’s creeptastic uncle, who issues the couple an annulment. Sadly, the same can’t be said for Dennis’ marriage, which ends in a bitter divorce. But at least he got rid of old death tooth. Meanwhile, Dee “helps” kidnap Bill’s kids in her new BMW, meets someone she thinks is his wife, who is actually his other mistress and then loses the car, and luckily Bill.

In end, the gang is once again just a bunch of scummy losers, unlucky in love and life, just the way we like them. This episode was definitely an improvement from last week’s, but next week’s boat adventures look truly divine. What do you think? Does the gang have the mojo back? And when will Dee get preggers? Will Bill Ponderosa return?

    This isn’t a review. It’s a recap.

I really liked the episode. I loved that they brought back the super creepy Uncle Jack from season one. He stole the entire episode with his repeated references to hands and being a lawyer.

I thought the episode lacked something… like the banter was a little slower or more planned. Dennis wasn’t as upfront as I’d come to expect, and he had weird carpety chest hair.
