TRUE BLOOD “I Got a Right to Sing the Blues” Review

True Blood (HBO)

What did you think of tonight’s episode of TRUE BLOOD, “I Got a Right to Sing the Blues”?

So last week the king of Mississippi found out there is more to Sookie than meets the eye. At the same time, the king also found out that Bill wasn’t as trustworthy as he thought. To make things even more exciting, Eric showed up on the scene too add even more suspense (and sexual tension). So that’s where tonight’s episode “I Got the Right to Sing the Blues” begins.

Sookie
Sookie threatens to kill Lorena which I thought was just about as foolish as Bill’s murder attempt on Russell. Since she spent most of the episode locked up there isn’t too much to add about my favorite waitress, however is looks like next week is going to be very interesting! I don’t know if I would have gone back for Bill if I were Sookie. Also, I’m dying to learn more about this lightening that comes out of her hands. This isn’t something that was in the book, so this has been all very new and cool to me.

Bill
I’m sorry, but I feel like Bill was down right stupid to attempt to kill a king. I think he might have gotten a lighter sentence if he hadn’t of done that. Also, what’s with Lorena going “SAW” style on him? If she truly loved him wouldn’t she want him to suffer as little as possible? Also, If vamps can’t make contact with the sun, where does she come from at the end? Was she in the slave quarters the whole time?

Eric
Eric declares that Sookie means nothing to him, but of course I don’t believe him for a second. I wonder what his plan is? Sophie-Anne obviously hates him now and his own personal interests (Sookie, getting the crown back) obviously don’t align with Russell’s agenda. So, how is he going to get everything he wants but also come out of it okay? If anybody can maneuver it, it’s Eric.

Russell/Sophie-Anne
Russell proposes marriage to Sophie-Anne which I think would not only solve Sophie’s problems but also Eric and Bill’s and will also make Russell more powerful. Sounds like a win-win to me, what do you think?

Sam
I thought this was going to be a Sam-free episode tonight until the very end. I’ve been dying to find out what the deal is with his brother and his dad, but of all the things I had in mind, dog fighting wasn’t on the list. What the heck?? How unbelievably cruel and messed up is that? I hope Sam can rescue him from the fight and get his parent’s out of the picture.

Tara/Franklin
Tara is one of the only ones in my opinion that displayed any sort of common sense tonight. She was smart to butter Franklin up to get her hands untied. This girl has been put through so much and it’s made her hard. I could hardly stand to watch her bite his neck to bits. Her only mistake is that although the spiked mallet to the face was effective in the short-term, I have a feeling that Franklin could heal from it. What do you think? Fun fact: the guard that Tara confronted at Sookie’s room is Patrick’s Swayze’s brother.

At the end we see Tara meet up with Alcide in the woods (thank god). I finally breathed a sigh of relief for Tara when I saw him in the woods. I hope they can scoop up Sookie and Bill and be on the road back to Bon Temps before nightfall.

Jessica
If I was Jessica I would make Arlene ‘disappear’ in the most Italian sense of the word. I loved how she’s been testing out her glamor skills. Who else thought she was going to kill that poor old woman in the bathroom? I can’t wait to see where things go with her and Arlene in future episodes.

Jason/Crystal
So, Jason rides out to see Crystal and finds out she’s engaged to somebody else. To make himself feel better, he makes his first sort-of arrest. I feel like Crystal has more secrets other than her engagement. What do you think? I actually really liked her way more than other girls Jason has showed interest in so I hope she comes back.

Lafayette
I loved seeing Lafayette happy with Jesus. What do you all think of Jesus. Is there another motive there, or do you think he honestly liked Lafayette? It actually made me like him even more that he dumped Lafayette for dealing drugs. If Jesus is a trustworthy guy, maybe he will help Lafayette turn is life around.

Cliffhanger
So as Sookie attempts to break Bill out, Lorena shows up and bites Sookie. So since I think we can safely assume that Sookie and Bill aren’t going to die this season, I can only assume that Sookie fulfills her promise and kills Lorena? What do you think will happen? Even if Sookie and Bill do escape, that isn’t going to make Russell very happy.

Aside from that, there seems to be something building up with people’s fear of vampires. Sam’s brother was watching that news program and also Arlene’s feeling about Jessica suggests the show is indicating future trouble between vamp-haters and the super natural world. I think this might be my favorite season of True Blood and I’m looking forward to seeing where the story goes.
