AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER Sequel LEGEND OF KORRA Greenlit by Nickelodeon

Avatar: The Last Airbender (Nickelodeon)

The animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender will live on as Nickelodeon has given creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko the green light on a new series that will be a continuation of Avatar. The new series is tentatively titled LEGEND OF KORRA.

The new series will be a continuation of the Avatar story and will focus on a young female named Korra who is the next Avatar. The new series will be set 70 years beyond the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender and will see Korra arriving in Republic City to master one last element, air. She receives help during her fight against crime from Tenzin, the son of the previous avatar, while at the same time facing an anti-bending movement that could bring down the metropolis.

The new series will premier in 2011 and Nickelodeon’s Animation Studio in Burbank, California will be handling the production.

Im really stoked for the new avatar series to come out. Although Im a little disappointed at the whole *this woman is headstrong and ready to take on the world* kind of thing…How come she just cant be a regular woman? Why does she need to be headstrong and whatever. . .hell even Aang wasn’t all like that, he was a bit wimpy for most of the chapter in my opinion, Why is it nowadays that only the women can be strong and tough heroes while the men are forced to be wimpy 12 year olds who trip over themselves because of a girl they have a Crush on?

Im all for girl power and all that jazz but why does it seem that girl power has to come at the expense of a strong male lead character as well? I just don’t get it.
