HOUSE “Help Me” Season 6 Finale Review

HOUSE MD Help Me (7)

I got the chance to take an early look at the season 6 finale of HOUSE “Help Me,” which airs tonight, Monday 17, at 8pm on FOX. And I can tell you that it’s not a typical House episode, this time we’re out on the field when House, Cuddy and the team are called for medical help on a search-and-rescue effort at the scene of an emergency. However, there are some familiar aspect as House and his team also try to figure out what caused the accident in the first place.

Since this is episode is a season finale, we’re of course going to expect something more than usual. In “Help Me,” we get to see House working on the field and taking matters into his own hands (literally), but we also get some real insight into House’s most inner thoughts and feelings. I think it’s probably one of the most information we ever had about House’s state of mind, which I personally loved.

The event in itself is just your typical tragedy with one woman stuck under debris catching House’s attention, which leads to the revelations that I just mentioned. Other than that, we don’t get to see much of the rest of team, who is working on the figuring out what is wrong with the man that caused the accident, so nothing too exciting there.

As for the ending, well the screener we received didn’t have the last scene of the episode on it (which makes me think something big must be happening for FOX to want to keep it secret), so I can’t say much about that. But I can say that the last scene on the screener could make the story move in a different direction. However I’m afraid that this new direction might be taking a step back from where we are now. So I think we better all tune in to find out the answer.

Overall, from what I have seen, this is a great finale episode to a very strong season, possibly one of my favorite seasons (especially with such a strong season premiere), and you shouldn’t miss it tonight at 8pm on FOX.

I thought this was one of the best seasons until it started to lean more towards the romantic drama and had less medical drama in it. I think the present writers should look back at season one and see if they can re-capture the magic again for season 7.

I have to agree with Maddy on this one. While there have been some fantastic episodes this season and it has indeed been a strong one overall, I was honestly a bit disappointed when things took a turn towards the romantic drama angle. Romantic dramas happening to have some medicine involved are already all over television. And, honestly, they all stink. As someone from a medical family (father a doctor, mother a nurse, uncle a surgeon, et al) and myself going into the medical field, House is an anomaly from the other medical shows on TV now because of its unique medical maladies and the focus on the medicine.

Seeing as the creators have said House was based on a Sherlock Holmes type character (Wilson being his Watson), it would not make sense for House’s character to turn into a softie or let romantic idealism get in the way. I also couldn’t buy Cuddy’s revelation that she loved House. I mean, seriously, going from engaged at the beginning of the day to another man’s arms is not keeping with Cuddy’s character.

But I still have some faith that the show’s writers won’t take things in a stereotypical direction in the seventh season. Some oddities I found in this episode is how House even got home considering he left his cane at the crash site along with his motorcycle. However, if the final sequence were just a hallucination or dream, a lot of other viewers would be more than a little ticked off.

All I hope is that the writers of the show stick to the nuances of the characters and don’t make everything so clear cut with blunt “revelations.” Those subtleties helped make House the amazing show it has come to be.
