LOST “Lighthouse” Review (Season 6 Episode 5)

LOST Lighthouse Review

What did you think of tonight’s episode of Lost “Lighthouse”? Wasn’t it crazy?!

So there were more mentions tonight of Jack and Claire’s dad. I wonder what part he plays in all this? Why did his body disappear when he landed on the island and why was his body lost in the other reality? I have a feeling he plays a larger role than I originally thought. I think when the plane crashed in Season 1 he went the same way that Locke did.

Who do you think Jacob was speaking about when he told Hugo somebody is coming to the island. Charles? New Candidates?

I’m still not quite understanding what is up with this whole alternate reality thing. Is it what would have happened if Jacob hadn’t touched their lives? And, Jack HAS A SON?! Kind of an odd kid as well don’t you think? Who’s the mom? It seems like no matter what reality Jack lives in, he just can’t be happy. I don’t understand why the temple guy and his son were at the audition. But then again, I still don’t understand why Ben has become a school teacher.

Now let’s talk about the lighthouse. Where the F did it come from? It seems to be the device that Jacob used to summon his candidates to the island. I thought Desmond punching in the numbers was what brought them in? No? Either way, it doesn’t seem to matter now that Jack went Chuck Norris on it.

Lastly there is evil Claire and evil Locke. First off, evil Claire is WAY more evil it seems as she has gone ax murderer (and also seems to be bringing some truth to these allegations). I understand that she wants Aaron back, but didn’t she leave him in the first place? Kate better watch out, she’s going to be walking right into a death trap and Jin is already in the middle of one.

So as always, I’m as Lost as ever. Please leave some comments on what your take on everything is. I love reading your theories!

The episode wasn’t the strongest and could have been much better, but Jack’s depth saved the episode from being like the Kate episode two episodes ago. The journey the lighthouse was largely inconsequential, so I was disappointed in that. Claire’s reappearance was simply terrific and the appearance of her “friend” was also great.

Could the part about flash-sideways Jack’s appendix scar be a clue to what’s going on? Juliet cut out Jack’s appendix on the island, so there has to be a connection or else it’s a major coincidence, and there are none on Lost.

I think that there is no one else coming to the island and that Jacob did all of that just to get Jack to the lighthouse to see his house in the mirrors. Remember when Jacob told Hurley that Jack had something important to do but he needed to figure it out for himself. I think that is what he meant originally when he said someone is coming to the island but need some help getting there. Jack needed help finding his way.

As for Ben and the Samurai, as a commenter said last week, I think that the alternate reality is just showing how these people would have met up in real life without the hand of Jacob or the island because their paths were always supposed to cross.

Also? I have a feeling Kate is David’s mother in the alternate reality. He looks like a cross between Jack and Kate.

I’ll bet the farm that it’s Desmond who is being brought to he island. Jacob indicated a bearing of 108…and Desmond had to push the button how frequently? You got it — every 108 minutes. Plus, we know that Desmond is special and somehow very important to the proceedings. He needs to be brought back into the fold. You heard it here first, folks: Desmond and Penny will show up on their boat.

Not only did Desmond push the button every 108 minutes, but when he pulled the fail switch at the swan station and it blew up, he time shifted back to 1996 and when he look at his watch it was frozen on 1:08

TV Obsessed – interesting point about Jack’s scar

Dani – I think you are right about how their paths were all meant to cross. My first reaction was that Kate is the mom too, but so far in the flashbacks she’s been an escaped convict…it doesn’t seem to add up.

Johnny – I would LOVE desmond and penny to show up! They are 2 of my fav characters :)

I too think that Kate is the mother of Jack’s son. My money is on Desmond and Penny being the newest arrivals to the island. When I was watching the episode I didn’t pick up on the significance of 108. That’s pretty cool.

The new ‘don’t screw with me!’ Claire is pretty awesome! She has completely lost her mind. What did the people in the temple do to her?

Kate couldn’t be the mother of Jack’s son – she was on the plane. Juliette maybe?

    • Anonymous LOSTIE

Jack’s son was like 12 or so in 2004, meaning Jack and Kate would have had to have met 12 years prior to the plane crash, also meaning Jack would have recognized her on Oceanic Flight 815. Hence, Kate can’t be the mother of Jack’s son. Frankly, I think the boy’s mother is insignificant; the point of Jack’s “Flashsideways” – in my opinion – is to show how Jack is able to overcome his insecurities about his father through becoming reconciling his relationship with his son by the end of the episode. Then again it’s LOST, so I can be completely LOST myself :)
