LOST “The Substitute” Review

LOST The Substitute

How in the world is this going to shape up to be the final season of Lost when I am more confused than ever before? Sigh. At least, I am not as confused as I was last week, but that’s not saying too much.

So, I love the stark contrast in the two realities of John Locke. In one reality, he has no use of his legs, job trouble, but the love of a nice woman. In the other, he’s dead, but reincarnated as an ancient black smoke monster that holds the secrets to the island. That’s pretty damn cool.

However, it seems that no matter how hard poor Locke tries, he just can’t rid himself of Jack, Hurley, and Ben. Side note – I love that Hurley is awesome no matter what reality he’s in.

Here’s a question I want to put out there. Is the “darkness” that John Locke has become similar to what’s taken Claire and possibly Sayid? Is it also what brought Jack’s dad back to life? Let me know your theories about this.

So now let’s talk for a sec about the creepy little blonde kid. The ghost of Jacob perhaps? Who do you think he was talking about when he said “you know the rules, you can’t kill him”? I took it to mean Sawyer. My theory is that they aren’t able to kill any of the core characters because they are ‘candidates’ – which apparently is the reason why they are all on the island (if we believe what evil Locke told Sawyer).

So in the alternate reality, all the ‘candidates’ seem to be crossing paths. The question is, why? If the island is gone, what could be brining them together?

So the final question of the night is how much can we trust evil Locke? Is it true that he just wants to be free of the island and go home, or is he looking to ‘unlocke’ (get it?) his evil smoke death machine on civilization? You tell me.

Here are some of my favorite quotes from Lost The Substitute:

“Richard I’m sorry I hit you in the throat and dragged you off the beach” Evil Locke to Richard

“I don’t care if you’re dead, or time traveling, or the ghost of Christmas past” Sawyer to Evil Locke

    Hi,

What a good episode it was, getting very weird. I think that locke is going to attempt to kill them all, well not locke the smoke monster, also i think the young lad was aaron, claires son as i am unsure who else it could be and if it was jacob why would he take the form of a child and also why would sawyer see him??

I think the ‘candidates’ may be the key to locke freeing from the island, i am unsure how tho i think they may be sacrifices or need to be killed in order for him to leave the island

Also in the side-flashes/alt reality i think the reason they are all meeting up is because all along they were supposed to meet each other, some reason they were all supposed to see one another.

As you can see i am lost in lost as per usual, i cant wait to see the finale of this, but then again i dont want to see it end
