CAPRICA First Three Episodes Review

CAPRICA

The new SyFy Original Series, CAPRICA premieres tonight Friday January 22 at 10 PM on SyFy. I had an opportunity to watch the first three episodes of Caprica and I wanted to share my thoughts on them.

As you may already know, Caprica is a prequel to Battlestar Galactica and chronicles the lives of two families, the Graystones and the Adamas, as they cope with a tragic loss and try to find a way to overcome it.

How much you appreciate Caprica depends on what kind of expectations you have for it.

If you are a Battlestar Galactica fan, you will expect to see the true beginning of the Cylon storyline and how it all went downhill. If that is the case, you will be pleased as Caprica delivers that, however it does so in an excruciatingly slow pace.

If you are not a Battlestar Galactica fan, you will still find your fill as the storyline, characters and overall flow are very well fleshed out. It’s a mix of family drama, action and thriller that really works well. The only problem is that the whole thing just comes together in a very predictable pattern that really doesn’t differentiate the show from your run of the mill family drama.

Now, beyond your own expectations, the question you should really ask yourself is whether you should watch this show or not. My answer is yes, only because there is a lot of potential for original and compelling storylines to come out of this however, do not mistake this for a rubber stamp.

I still think that the first three episodes were a little too predictable and lacked the originality needed to sustain this as long running series. If the storylines don’t get better, I will have to stop watching this show. As much as I loved the BSG universe, I also don’t have a lot of time to watch shows that just aren’t cutting it.

Now, feel free to speak up and leave a comment below to let me know what YOU think. Am I wrong? Is this show better than I thought? Or is it even worse?

I think this show definitely has a lot of potential, I agree it was somewhat predictable, but what do you expect, its a fraking prequel! we already know what happened in the past. Although the origin of the one god religion and the cylons having real emotions, feelings and a soul is a very deep and interesting plot that can be explored and through good writing can bring the series very close to the epic feel of BSG, it can be very philosophical and thought provoking which are the perfect ingredients of a great show. Frak yeah!
