How I Met Your Mother Or The Big Bang Theory – Would You Rather TV Edition

I love “Would You Rather” games. My friends hate me for it because I always like to pose impossible questions that make you ponder before you answer them like “Would you rather be rich and stupid or poor and smart?”

I decided to port that over in the TV realm by posing a question that was a tough one for me to answer.

Imagine that you are in the office of the president of CBS and he tells you the following:

“I need to cancel one sitcom. It is down to two series: How I Met Your Mother or The Big Bang Theory. I am letting you choose. Would you rather cancel How I Met Your Mother or The Big Bang Theory?”

Now in order to play this game, you have to be like me and really LOVE both shows. Otherwise, it is no fun.

Personally, picking between both shows would be like picking between two of my children. But ultimately, with tears in my eyes, I would have to go with keeping The Big Bang Theory for the following reasons:

- Sheldon knocking three times on Penny’s door saying “Penny, Penny, Penny”
- Sheldon saying “Bazinga”
- Sheldon hugging Penny after she gave him Leonard Nimoy’s DNA. (Best Episode Ever BTW)

I am sorry but these classic moments make The Big Bang Theory take it home for me. So in essence, I would rather cancel How I Met Your Mother. (Wow is it normal to choke up as I am writing this? Jeez man, it’s just a game.)

This is a tough choice, but I think I’m going to have to go with The Big Bang Theory as well. Raj is the best.

Wow.. I hate this game already.. Honestly I love both shows. First let me take your reasons and adapt:
- “Sheldon hugging Penny after she gave him Leonard Nimoy’s DNA. (Best Episode Ever BTW)” I think that is the moment I fell in love with the show!
- Sheldon and Penny’s singing soft kitty rounds.

That said HIMYM has shaped my life.. and watching it with a girl you like is always a good idea… If you haven’t done it yet do it!!! you can thank me later.

The thing that really makes me choose BBT to keep going is that with every episode of HIMYM we are one step closer to the end and we already know the end.. he has two kids.. hahaha…

BBT has ‘infinite worlds’ of posibilities with the only limitation being the imagination of the writers..

In conclusion … I hate your dumb game.. I don’t want to play…

My immediate thought was ‘Cancel HIMYM!’ because I absolutely adore BBT and am super protective over it even when it comes to meaningless games. But then you put that picture of Barney in the article, and I found myself hesitating. I do love HIMYM and I ADORE Barney (and am still holding out hope for Barney and Robin!). It really hurts to say this, but I am going to have to stick with my initial response. Keep BBT and Cancel HIMYM. There are soooooo many areas that BBT could explore and haven’t yet, plus, like James mentioned above, there’s infinite more areas to explore in BBT that the writers haven’t even thought of yet. It seems like HIMYM has done pretty much everything BUT got Ted together with the mother. The show still has a journey, and it’s still a journey I want to watch, but when it comes down to it, I’d rather live in a world with BBT than without. Despite the cost.

I cannot fathom what would happen to me if HIMYM was cancelled. And don’t get me wrong— I love TBBT—but a part of my heart would die if HIMYM was put to an end before we found out the identity of the Mother. It still pains me that only a year or two ago, HIMYM was on the verge of cancellation!

TBBT will always be one of those TV shows that I watch when I’m having a bad day, but How I Met Your Mother connects with me on a much deeper level, as if Marshmallow and Lilypad were my own best friends.

i completely agree with u…i have watched both shows a BILLION times, but how i met your mother is a slight rip off of friends, and as hilarious as it is, the whole young-people-in-new-york genre is replaceable….but the big bang theory is UNIQUE beyond words, the dialogue, the jokes and the charcters’ ability to make complicated physics hilarious is just one of the many reasons why TBBT is by far the best show on Tv today, including drama,reality and sitcoms…

so it hurts to say it, but between the two, i would let go of HIMYM, the BBT is too irreplaceable..

All of you talked about sheldon and such, both the shows are great and i watch both equally but i would have to say that…TBBT FTW!! there aint nothing better than a bunch of nerds for a tv show, and while the comparisons to sheldon and barney are great, you all are forgetting ONE charectar in tbbt that both me and my sister absolutley found hilarious and awesome… HOWARD WOLOWITZ!!!! hes like theeee best!! and raj xDD “how bout adding a little mochca to the family latte!”

Definitely keep HIMYM. I love the Big Bang Theory and its characters, but I’m more caught up in the story of HIMYM.
And it makes me laugh more than BBT.

I can list bad points of each show, but in the end, BBT has more neagtives with fewer redeeming qualities.
Sorry, I love this show, but I’m cancelling it.

I cant belive that some of u are saying cancell how i met your mother i mean i know to play this game you gotta like both shows but seriously HIMYM actually has a story line plus its twice as funny as bbt there not all nerds who are trying way too hard to get laid buy this one girl penny ….. i mean shes hot but damn in HIMYM barney gets laid all the time by way hotter chix hes legen … dary your just cant compete and one of you said that we know its gonna end and were getting one step closer every episode but thats why its worth watching because it makes you wanna keep watching to find out were the story line is going i say keep HIMYM chop bbt plus who wants to listen to two really iritating guys talk for that amount of time like really they give me a headache every time i watch the show and yes they are funny but not funny enough to put up with them and sheldon to barney what silly person would ever even try comparing them barney wins instantly.

this is my idea for the HIMYM cross-over with TBBT hope you like it.

plot of the how i met mother cross over the big bang theory.

himym went to califoria have a vacation barney’s treat. for his birthday and they have lunch in the cheesecake factory. barney saw penny taking the orders from tbbt gang barney call penny to take their orders.then wolowitz notice barney.how he make move on penny after the lunch penny introduce himym to tbbt tell them she is having a date with barney. sheldon and lenard is taking ted to california science center. raj with marshall. marshall is helping raj with girl problem while lily robin and howard. is spying on barney and penny BTW howard is making the move on robin. ted is lecturing sheldon and lenard in architecture sheldon is arguing with ted. marshall is the wing-man of raj and teaching to get girls without drinking an alcohol.

I think this could totally work… One special episode… Btw i would cancel BBT, cause i think HIMYM is a master piece in many ways…all good characters, amazing narration idea(i mean, how much work has there been before shooting 1. season…when you watch the show you can see how some details from previous show appear much much later and are very important to the story) I compare it to Harry Potter 7 books…SIMPLY A MASTER PIECE …and ofcourse Barney…So…

If BBT get cancelled, and if i get sad…
I will stop being sad and be awsome instead!

my i explain this you simply asking with side are they by simply quoting “which one do you prefer to be cancel”. 25% says TBBT and the other 25% says HIMYM in that case the remaining 25% will be on both side and the other 25% does care or exist. and in other word no one declared winner in this feud.

in my conclusion you simply wasted are time. BTW i love this two shows and i hate you for making this carp oh snap.

..well himym is remarkable..and all time enetertaining..where as tbbt..sometimes becms boring…but it do…gvs fun most of time..ultimate..

so conclusion..u can part any of them…

Commenting a year after the post. I’m kinda torn between these two shows because i like HIMYM more as it makes me laugh out loud like no other show can aswell as i like barney over sheldon. Then i think about how unique bbt is as a show and a concept. Also HIMYM is currently in it’s sixth season and may not have many more left in comparison to BBT which is in it’s fourth and would have much more longevity.

Ultimately i would cancel BBT but only just……

Cancel TBBT because Sheldon got only more and more annoying. He’s like a little kid sometimes and just bugs me. TBBT is to simple, I prefer HIMYM because the way it is written is much more enterataining to watch.

Screw How I met Your Mother, I have never even watched it! The Big Bang Theory is the greatest show on television! I have all three seasons on DVD, and have all the current episodes of season 4 on my DVR.
I have no idea what ‘How I Met Your Mother’ is about, but it can never compare with Sheldon, Leonard, Howard, Raj, and Penny!

Also TBBT is the only show I watch regulary, besides Star Wars: The Clone Wars. I also sometimes watch $#*! My Dad Says, Family Guy and Blue Bloods, and if I have time; StarGate Universe. But yeah, TBBT is the greatest!

Big bang theory all the way. Sheldon was just too great a character.
Barney may have the personality of Howard (but cooler) and the most interesting character in HIMYM (a Sheldon equivalent if you will) but he’s no where near the same lv with Sheldon Cooper.
