HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER “Duel Citizenship” Review (Season 5 Episode 5)

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER

What did you think of tonight’s episode of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, “Duel Citizenship”?

I thought it was so funny! I wish this show was on more than once a week, I seriously think I would never get sick of it. The whole thing with the “Tantrum” soda reminded me of a soda we had growing up called “Jolt”, it was like Mountain Dew but twice the sugar. I loved Marshall’s hat that was half Tantrum and half black coffee and how he ripped the phone book in two. I felt really bad for Ted this episode. All he wanted was a road trip with Marshall, and Lily came along and made him feel like the 3rd wheel. I wonder why Ted had an afro in 1999? I almost lost it when they were singing “500 Miles” by the Proclaimers during the flashback. That is one of my all time favorite road trip songs. Here are some of my other favorite moments from “Duel Citizenship”:

The “USA, USA” and “Shrimp Fried Rice” chants led by Barney

The fact that the “Sparky” audio book was read by Kenny Rogers

The B&B named “Crumpet Manor”

“You may now return to being pointless” Barney to Canada

Barney’s lessons to Robin on how to be a real American

Barney taking advantage of Canada’s universal healthcare.

All the Canadian references like “Hoser Hut” and Tim Horton’s

The only thing “Duel Citizenship” was really lacking as far as I’m concerned was clues about who the mom might be. They gave us a nice little nugget at the beginning of the season by saying that she was sitting in Ted’s classroom (actually it was the wrong classroom if you saw that episode) but so far we haven’t had much more to build on.

We were talking about Jolt last night too. I remember it being like Mountain Dew but my husband insists it was cola.

I loved the part where they’re singing 500 miles too! If I’m remembering correctly, in a previous episode about Marshall’s Fiero, they said the Proclaimers tape was stuck in the deck so that’s all they ever listened too while driving. Too funny!

Jolt was a cola. It was Jolt Cola in fact. It had a lightning bolt through the name and was terrible. I think there was a Mountain Dew equivalent called “surge” later on… and then Vault now… I could be wrong about those though.

Loved the episode, fantastic show as always. Loved the freakouts due to drinking Tantrum and Barney’s views on Canada vs. America.
