HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER “Definitions” Review (Season 5 Episode 1)

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER

So what did you think of tonight’s Season Premiere of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER? I thought it hilarious! Also, If you were itching for more Neil Patrick Harris after the Emmy awards last night, then you didn’t have to wait very long to get your fix! Robin was right; he really does look fantastic in a tux.

So after getting forced to have “the talk” by the group, it looks like Robin and Barney are now officially a couple, even if they don’t know it yet. This is going to be interesting. I can’t picture Barney in a relationship, so I hope he doesn’t screw things up too bad. I think the only way they have a shot of making it work is if they continue to lie to themselves that they aren’t a real couple. How long do you think they will last?

For me, the funniest part of the show was when Barney was teaching Ted in a flashback on how you have to treat women like Gremlins so they don’t become your girlfriend:

1. You can’t get them wet (don’t let them shower at your place)
2. Don’t let them in the sunlight (don’t meet up with them during the day)
3. Don’t feed them after midnight (don’t let them stay over)

Those rules are so deliciously mean and heartless yet at the same time really freaking funny! I also enjoyed the plot with Ted starting his first day as a college professor. I felt so bad for him when he forgot how to spell professor only to find out he was teaching the wrong class. Ouch! I think his new job will probably open up the season to some new characters and interesting situations.

Lily and Marshall were great as always. I loved how Marshall bought Ted the Indiana Jones gear. He looks nice is a tux too :-) Anyway, let me know what you thought of tonight’s show!

worst episode that I can remember and a poor way to start off the season

  • Bob

I disagree, it was a good episode, but not the best. the whole “your mom was in the class” narrative was so empty that it put lackluster into the episode. It put even more confusion as it was directed at his “first class”… were they referring to the Economics class or Architecture?

  • Daniel

It was a fine episode and a good way to kick things off. To Bob, future Ted said “your mom was in that classroom”. Nothing more than that. Four seasons have passed now things like this happen all the time, it’s part of the fun. Barney and Robin will be hilarious to watch later on because neither like relationships and both will pull away it funny little directions.

  • Joe

I absolutely hate the background laughing. Is that for the idiots?I feel like I was treated like one.

  • sofi

from here the end is obvious, ted will end up with robin, and the kids he’s talking to are someone else’s. so people enjoy the laughs but dont wait for the end
you know what, they are doing exactly what happened in friends, raychell had to be with joy the no commitment persn for a while before she ends up with ross.

  • Daniel

Robin and Barney are perfect for each other. That’s the point. The kids are definitely his. Unless they like to call some other dude, Dad. I don’t know how this show will end. I’m not even sure the producers for sure know. However, we know that Robin and Ted will not end up together.

  • sofi

first of all, they never speak so they never called him dad. second of all, when he is adressing them, he says kid, not my kids, so they are not definitely his. and third of all which is the last one, ted and robin are perfect for each other, robin doesn’t wanna have kids but with ted she was willing to. whenever he is serious in a relationship she is jealous and likewise.

  • Daniel

Did you watch the first season? They definitely have spoken numerous times and have called him dad. She wasn’t willing to have kids with Ted and she didn’t want to get married. That’s why they broke up. When they moved in together in the third season, she couldn’t bring herself to change things around in her apartment for Ted. In season 4 there was a whole episode dedicated to how Robin and Ted couldn’t stand to live with each other and have to sleep with each to even get along.

  • sofi

okay i rewatched the first season, and i saw the kids call ted; dad. but guys i can’t see ted ending up with any one but robin, i mean she can’t be the one for a while and then go back to being anyone. it just doesn’t make any sense.

  • lisa

Ted and Robin don’t end up together. Supposedly they are casting Rachel Bilson as the mum, ergo, not Robin. (Got that from ninemsn.com)
Also, people can fall in love with more than one person. Its not impossible!
I think HIMYM is an awesome show!! Love it soooo much!!! :)
