GLEE “Showmance” Review Episode 2

Chris Colfer, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Amber Riley, Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz

Tonight, September 9, marks the very anticipated return of GLEE with its second episode “Showmance” on Fox at 9pm.

Glee is my absolute favorite new show this Fall, nothing even comes close to it. It’s so original and finds a way to include musical numbers that would even appeal to non-muscial lovers.

In the second episode, everything that you loved about the first episode is back.

Characters

Will Schuester

In this episode, Will tries to find new students to join the Glee club. He decides to put up a little presentation for the school, but unfortunately his choice of song is not that great (as you can read below).
We also find out something about his wife, Terri, which could affect their relationship in future episodes.

Emma

I love how Emma has her own theme song. You always know that she’s on-screen when you hear it. And yes she is still as adorable and as in love with Will as ever.

Sue Sylvester

Sue Sylvester is of course still trying to put an end to this Glee club nonsense, but unfortunately, it’s not as easy as she first anticipated. This leads her to find new means to achieve her goal. I personally just enjoy seeing Jane Lynch on screen, no matter what she does. You definitely love to hate her in Glee.

Rachel & Finn

While the Glee club is getting bigger, unfortunately, it hasn’t done anything for Rachel’s status in school. She is still pretty quirky, which is refreshing compared to the usual characters you see on TV.
As for Finn, well he is 100% committed to the Glee club now and there could be some feelings developing between him and Rachel…

Songs

In this episode, the Glee club performs some new song. So how about we take a look at them.

First up, “Le Freak” by Chic, which unfortunately for them is the song that Mister Schuester wants them to perform in front of the whole school.

Kanye West’ “Gold Digger” which at this point I assume you’ve already seen at least once (if not more, like me). But it just doesn’t get old, and Matthew Morrison has got some moves!

And finally, “Push It” by Salt-N-Pepa, which is performed… well I don’t want to give everything away, so you’ll have to watch the episode to find out.

“I Say a Little Prayer” by Aretha Franklin performed by Quinn (Dianna Agron).

“Take a Bow” by Rihanna, which is performed beautifully by Rachel (Lea Michele).

Glee is the MUST SEE show this Fall 2009, so don’t forget to watch it tonight at 9pm on Fox.

Definitely not High School Musical, and that’s not a good thing.

This show is actually ANTI-Christian. They demonstrate over and over again how they feel that Christian values are unhealthy and progressive ideas (for example about sex ed) are healthy. Think what you want about Christian values but fight fair. They cheat. They display an abstinence club that is against conversations about contraceptions but allows the members to engage in obvious sexual behavior. They actually show couples in the club grinding with each other in one of the meetings. Of course clubs like THAT would fail in preventing teen pregnancy! That’s ENCOURAGING pre-marital sex! That’s not fighting fair! That’s LYING! Abstinent clubs are NOT NOT NOT like that at all. They would not allow their members to INDULGE in sexual activity.

The answer the show presents is of course not the true Christian view. It’s the progressive view that teen sex is unavoidable and shouldn’t be fought at all. You don’t win battles by joining the other side. Basically it’s kind of like saying, “your kids are going to drink anyway so you might as well buy them the beer yourself.”

Any Christian parent that allows his children to watch this show should be ashamed. The agenda against Christian values is very obvious. It’s not surprising when you consider that the creator is also the creator of nip/tuck, another sexually charged show.

ALEX you are so right!! I was thinking that this may resemble High School Musical. I was horrible…so much so that I turned it off after seeing over and over again the Anti Christian message it was at times subliminal and overtly evoking.
Statistics prove that 93% of high school students want MORE abstinence education!!!
The research also shows that teens who remain abstinent have higher academic achievement.[7] Analyzing a large nationally representative sample of youths, a Heritage study found that compared to sexually active teens, those who remained abstinent through high school were 60 percent less likely to be expelled from school, 50 percent less likely to drop out of high school, and almost twice as likely to graduate from college.

Abstinent teens also report better psychological WELL-BEING than their peers who are sexually active, and girls, in particular, appear to benefit from delayed sexual activity.[8] Reduced sexual activity decreases teen exposure to sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), reduces their risks of having children out of wedlock, and improves their emotional and mental health!!

Speaks volumes doesn’t it Thank you ALEX for speaking out against this horrible show.
I will send letters to the advertisers, banning their product and stating my concern for the students that haven’t been given a chance to hear the facts of abstinece teaching and are being brain-washed by this idiotic show.

“Statistics prove that 93% of high school students want MORE abstinence education!!!” I have a hard time swallowing that and many of the other so called copy-pasted statistics. I’ve majored in statistics and I know how easy it is to manipulate any statistic to fit your agenda. For example, where did you get this statistic of 93% of high school students want more abstinence education from anyways? From an abstinence website? Did you think about WHAT kind of high schools were surveyed, how many where surveyed, where were they surveyed from? For all we know, it could have been some high school in India consisting of 100 students or something.

“The research also shows that teens who remain abstinent have higher academic achievement etc…” There are a lot of other variables in here. For example, it may just be that students that study more and have higher academic achievement are much more focused don’t have time for sex. Which means you could get misleading information; the students would remain abstinent BECAUSE they study much harder, and understand their goals, don’t have time and etc… The EFFECT is abstinence, NOT the cause. So really, if you took a survey and found that abstinent kids had higher academic achievement it’s probably just the opposite way around! And this goes for the rest of the examples, kids who are focused on education are less likely to drop out of high school- because of this, most of them aren’t having sex. Likewise, maybe sexually active teens have emotional issues that makes them TURN to sex, not that sex makes them have emotional issues! Its completely misleading to say that if you have sex than you’re more likely to have emothional and mental health issues. GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT! Honestly, I could dissect each of those statistics, but next time just THINK about these statistics before you mindlessly copy paste them away. There are other ways of promoting abstinence, and this isn’t the way to do it.

Well, although I totally 100% agree with Alex, I do have to say that Glee never claimed to be pro-Christian on their values…so what do you expect? After viewing the 1st episode, my family and I will simply not watch. End of story. It will not prevent the rest of the non-Christian (and unfortunately many Christian) viewers from doing so, but that is not our battle. Let the Lord convict. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

  • Wow…

Wow good job Believe pulling out random statistics. I wouldn’t say Glee is as much anti christian as it is just liberal. It favors sexual education (which is better than abstinence only education I might add). If you look at the abstinence only education states you would see that teen pregnancy rates are HIGHER than in sex ed states. Why? Because teen sex is going to happen no matter what (just like the show says). Abstinence-only only represents no sex, or sex without contraceptives. Sex Education represents no sex, or sex with contraceptives.

Also the abstinence linked to grades. There are way too many factors to directly link abstinence to grades. You have to remember a majority of the kids that are having sex in high school are the ones who don’t even care anyways.

    So, shut yer piehole!

Just watched this episode online. So disappointed. The first episode had us cheering. Full of energy, upbeat. This was a stark difference. Songs were just ok, and the references to sex was just too much…it actually took away from the lightheartedness of the show. Not only that, it just doesn’t work with the cast they have in place, it seems awkward. I will give it one more chance in a few days to see if the show can pull itself together, if not I am out!

The only redeeming part of the show was Jane Lynch. She is fantastic.
