New MELROSE PLACE “Pilot” Review September 7, 2009 Melrose Place, Reviews MELROSE PLACE (2.0) will premiere on The CW tomorrow, September 8 at 9 p.m. on the CW. Having seen the pilot all I can say is this: If you thought 90210 was bad, then meet Melrose Place, a show so excruciatingly terrible that it actually makes 90210 look decent. Once again it seems the cast was chosen based on their looks and not their talent. If the storylines weren’t that compelling to start with, then add the terrible acting on top of that and I just could barely make it through the pilot. I even tried watching the second episode, but had to stop halfway through as it was too painful. The weird thing is is that some of the actors have actually proven themselves to be pretty decent in other shows, including Katie Cassidy, Stephanie Jacobsen, Jessica Lucas and Michael Rady. Which makes me wonder if it was asked of them and the rest of the cast to tone it down. Either way, I just cannot get into the show and cannot recommend you watch it (unless you enjoy 90210, in which case you might actually like Melrose Place). If you really want to watch a show about rich, beautiful young people, how about watching Gossip Girl? And if you watch to watch a show with just pretty young people, I can also recommend Supernatural and Smallville. Unfortunately, for me Melrose Place was a show that should never had been remade, or at least not in this form. So to summarize, Melrose Place 2.0 is a major fail.
