SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND Trailer

Spartacus: Blood and Sand

Check out the trailer for Starz’ new series, SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND, which will premiere in January 2010.

The series will have 13 episodes and is executive produced by Sam Raimi (Spider-Man and Evil Dead), Rob Tapert (The Grudge, “Xena: Warrior Princess” and “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys”) and Steven DeKnight (“Smallville,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”).

The cast includes Andy Whitfield, whom I have actually seen in the movie, Gabriel (one of the highest grossing films at the Australian Box Office in 2007) and am really looking forward to seeing in this, Lucy Lawless (“Xena: Warrior Princess,” “Battlestar Galactica”), John Hannah, Peter Mensah, and Erin Cummings.

Spartacus: Blood and Sand Synopsis: The UK-born and Australia-based Andy Whitfield portrays Spartacus, a soldier in the Roman Auxiliary who is taken prisoner. As punishment for defying a Roman Legate, Spartacus is sentenced to die in the gladiator arena. But after surviving numerous fights, his sentence is commuted and is sold as a slave to be trained as a gladiator.

The trailer looks really good and I have high hopes for the show especially since Sam Raimi is also one of the producers behind “Legend of the Seeker,” which I love. I am a little turned off by how graphic the violence is, it’s pretty hard-core, but that won’t prevent me from watching the show. It looks like Starz is starting to get to the level of HBO and Showtime when it comes to original series.

I love this show. They have great actors, action, and intense fighting scenes. Every week I can’t wait to see what is going to happen. This is the real deal when it comes to what gladiators, and a great show is suppose to entail. Spartacus is the best, and so is the actor that plays him because he brings the character to life!!! I will keep watching, and waiting for next season.
