I just finished watching an advanced copy of episode 6, “Tiny Bubbles” from the new Showtime series, NURSE JACKIE. You are going to LOVE this episode. We get to meet Cooper’s moms (yes, plural) when he has to perform an unexpected operation. They are played by two fairly big name guest stars. We also receive confirmation regarding the validity of Cooper’s special “tick”. Since the series has gone on, Cooper has slowly developed into one of my favorite characters on the show. Probably because at first there seemed like there was nothing at all to him and as the series goes on, we learn that he has a few layers.
In another story line, an old friend of the hospital pays a visit, but as a patient. Her offensive personality creates some of the funniest scenes of the series. There is a couple in particular that involve Gloria that will make you laugh really hard. Then the show takes a more serious turn when Nurse Jackie has to make an extremely tough decision in order to help her friend. Zoey can sense that something is up, and tries to be there for Jackie, and of course, comedy ensues. I think the writers do a great job of balancing comedy and drama. Some hospital shows are too heavy for my taste. Nurse Jackie does the perfect job of providing interesting dramatic story lines while at the same time not taking themselves too seriously. I can’t wait to see more!
Don’t forget to watch Nurse Jackie Monday, July 13, 2009 at 10:30pm on Showtime.
