PARKS AND RECREATION “Pilot” Review

Aziz Ansari as Tom Haverford, Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope

What did you think of tonight’s premiere of NBC’s PARKS AND RECREATION?

I had a few friends over tonight and we checked it out (in between episodes of The Office). Even though it has all the ingredients for a great show (producers from The Office, awesome cast, great time slot) it just tasted a little too familiar. Come on NBC, a mockumentary with a stupid, yet oddly likeable boss? The characters even pause to look at the camera like they do on The Office. Wasn’t it bad enough that we had to rob The Office from the Brits? The best we can do now is just expand on the same stolen concept? It didn’t help that they played it right after The Office so all the similarities were glaringly obvious.

So now that you know how I really feel, let me tell you what I actually liked about the show. For one, the cast is solid. Amy Poehler has already proven herself as a comedy main stay from SNL, and I thought Rashida Jones (The Office, I Love You Man), and Aziz Ansari are excellent choices. I saw Ansari for the first time a few months ago when I checked out a stand up comedy show he headlined. He was hilarious! I’m really looking forward to what he’s going to bring to the show. I would actually like to see more of him and Rashida Jones and less of Amy Poehler. Like Michael Scott, the show needs her, but she wasn’t the best thing about it. Secondly, the concept is somewhat interesting. I like how it takes place in a small, somewhat obscure, government department. But again, is it that different from taking place in a small, obscure paper company? Anyway, enough of my opinion, what did you all think?

Amie, I completely agree with your review. I laughed a few times but i don’t know if i’ll watch it again. I think most of the laughs came from Aziz Ansari. I liked him when he was on Scrubs so i was happy to see him again.

I agree too, but I don’t think I laughed once during the whole episode. They really tried too hard to copy “The Office” when they should have tried to find a different way to do it.

I think the show has potential. I didn’t like them speaking into the camera either. I will give it a few more chances.
