Episode Synopsis: THE BIGGEST LOSER Season 7 Episode 8 – This week brings a shake-up no one sees coming when all of the contestants are divided into just two teams – blue and black – leaving many players without their original trainer. Drama ensues, especially with one team who struggles to get used to their new trainer. And contestants are put to the test with one of the longest challenges ever, in which each team tries to put as many miles as they can on their bike in a 24-hour period. Alison Sweeney hosts the series, and Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels also star.

At the end of last night’s (2/25/09) episode of Biggest Loser, the kicked-off contestant claimed to have run a marathon with his wife. The caption showed that he completed the marathon in 3:53. Finishing would be a cool achievement, especially at his weight. The race in question was the Desert Classic Marathon, held on 1/31/09. A finishing time of 3:53 on that course would have scored he and his wife very high placement.

Except for one thing. They caught a ride in a van for several miles, got busted for cheating, and removed from the results. The NBC camera crew knew this (members of my running team were there and witnessed the whole thing) and chose to play it up in the show anyway.

This is not a typical reality TV fudge or editing trick. This is an outright lie (in real life, not on the set) perpetuated by the show.

It insults the runners at that race, and really all runners. I suspect it would be insulting to those who look towards these people as role models.

And it will really really suck if this guy who cheated and lied winds up winning some money and endorsements at the end.

Also, this is one of the main themes in the Television Without Pity discussion area today and was even mentioned at the end of their show recap.

    The show lied.
