LOST “316″ Review (Season 5 Episode 6)

Lost

What did you think of tonight’s episode of LOST, “316″?

Shyte! Tonight’s show was good but first I need to get a few things off my chest. The last time I flew I got my lip gloss confiscated but yet Jack makes it through security with a corpse and Hurly buys 78 empty seats without arousing any suspicion? One thinks not. Also, Jack’s grandpa and Sawyer need to get their eyes examined because I spent the whole show trying to find a freckle on Kate’s face and came up empty handed. And come on, would Kate and Sun really leave their children behind to go back to the island? That is just ridonkulous.

Okay, now I feel better so let’s talk about the show. Do you think Eloise is really Faraday’s mom? Ben and Eloise never really confirm or deny the accusation when Desmond brought it up. What if Widmore sent him there as a trap, to banish him back to the island? Either way, I hope he and Penny made it far away after he left the church. One thing that got me worried is that Ben sees Desmond at the church. Do you think he went looking for Penny afterwards? He did vow to kill her after all, AND we see him later covered in blood…

So it looks like 5 of the oceanic six (plus Ben, a dead(ish) John Locke and Lapidus) may have made it back to the island. I loved Lapidus’s line, “We’re not going to Guam are we?” He reminded me of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. Here’s a question though, does the plane actually crash? Also, do the other random passengers get transported to the island as well? Then we see Jin outfitted in Darma clothing. Did they go back in time? Maybe that’s how Locke is able to come back to life?

Before I close out for tonight, I wanted to bring up something my friend Sterling made me aware of. Apparently the show Fringe has some subtle references to Lost in it. From what I heard there are references to the numbers as well as to the characters. Has anyone else noticed this? Please share more info on this if you have some. Talk to you next week!

I had the same thought about Ben – that when he saw Desmond at the church he realized where he could find Penny and went after her. I hope I’m wrong about that. Maybe Desmond is the one who messed up Ben’s face?

I wonder why Hurley brought the guitar with him? Maybe ghost Charlie told him too.

I watch Fringe but I haven’t noticed any shout outs to Lost. I’ll have to start paying more attention.

Lost Reference in Fringe?? I don’t see it.
So one of two things: Either someone has been smoking something or it’s a different fringe we are talking about.

    BTW, crack is wack!! :)

I wondered if Ben got beat up in a fight with Sahed. Maybe Ben arranged for Sahed to get arrested so he would be in handcuffs like Kate was in the first episode. Did anyone else get creeped out by the guy at the ticket counter who spoke to Jack? He made it on the plane. I think he will turn up on the Island too.
Also, the guy who played Jacks grandfather looked not much older than Jack’s dad and he just happened to have his son’s shoes in his suitcase?

Kate does have freckles. In fact, if you remember, that was Sawyer’s nickname. Here is a link to a pic of her with freckles:

While it would be quite suspicious to buy 78 seats on a plane, I wasnt bothered by Jack bringing the coffin. After all, he did it with his father as well. People often have to transport coffins and I am pretty sure he did not roll it through security (however, having said that, I am not sure what exactly he did to get it on board. Is there a special coffin drop off area at the airport?).

I also think the plane crashes because of the plane parts and boats that Sawyer and the others found during one of their flash forwards (if you will recall the camp was long deserted so it was obviously in the future).

It is a great season so far if not a bit overwhelming with all the jumping around in time.

Hi Dani. So you think the camp and boats are from the most recent trip to the island? Very interesting! But if they crashed how come they ended up in a river without any scrapes? Also they showed up back in time as we saw by the appearance of Jin. I think you could still be right, but that would mean that the island continues to time warp after Jack and crew arrive (for them to end up being the people with the boats).

Hi Amie – I am wondering if just going back to the island alone is enough to stop the jumping? Doesn’t it seem like maybe they might have something left to do before it stops? Or, in the alternative, perhaps just being in close proximity to the island caused them to jump in time, while meanwhile the plane crashed? I would think it is just too coincidental for their to be that particular airline items (Ajira?) on the island in a time that appeared to be long after the original crash.

Also, I am not sure if they showed up back in time since we saw Jin since we know JIn survived the blow up on the boat so he is still alive and time jumping as well. It could be that they just landed in the same time period as Jin’s last jump?

Okay, now I have a headache.

I think the time jumps stopped when Locke shoved the wheel for his own little trip. From the little talk he had with Christian Shephard/Jacob? it sounds like Ben screwed up the wheel’s function and Locke just needed to get it back on the right axis. Doesnt explain how Jack and Kate ended up in Jin’s time or if the crash victims also ended up at the same point in the timeline.

The connection to Fringe was a boarding pass on one of the earlier episodes this season.

I think Hurley’s got a guitar from Charlie (maybe from Charlie’s brother) but I really think he had that bad boy stocked with snacks :)

Best line of the season so far has got to be “We’re not going to Guam are we?”
