DIRTY SEXY MONEY Cancelled – It is Official

It is official! DIRTY SEXY MONEY is cancelled.

According to the LA Times Blog, ABC President of Entertainment Steve McPherson told the executive producers of “Dirty Sexy Money” that the show was going to be cancelled.

The show will officially get to finish the 13-episode that were initially ordered. Here is the story:

It’s a given: breaking up is hard to do, especially when it’s not mutual.

But does it have to be this complicated? It’s been one wacky afternoon in TV Land. ABC President of Entertainment Steve McPherson has been busy calling the executive producers of “Pushing Daisies,” “Dirty Sexy Money” and “Eli Stone” to let them down gently about their shows coming to an end.

Except that McPherson didn’t use the crass “You’re canceled” terms and instead talked in soft, loving terms about his appreciation for the shows, despite the fact that he was not ordering more episodes. Other ABC officials said the door was left open for a possible reconciliation, but the producers clearly interpreted the conversations differently.

I’m getting tired of these networks bringing out shows you get into them then a year or two in their cancelled. They’ll never be more ER’s, more Dallas’ cause ya never give them time! Dirty Sexy Money is my favorite show on television in years….and I can think of about 10 in your line-up I’d cancel before this one!

I think Steve McPherson needs to be FIRED! I should be in charge of ABC entertainment! I LOVE DIRTYSEXY MONEY!!!!!!!! and so does a lot of other people I know. Give it time, instead of wasting money on new pilots to cancel that arent ‘INSTANT HITS” Not every show can be a smash hit like Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives. How can they even tell how many people watch it??? I do not watch anything LIVE! I DVR/tivo my shows! Why not cancel Private Practice? It’s a snorefest! Maybe better promotions would help. re-run the shows like some cable networks do.

Cancelling Dirty, Sexy, Money is a huge mistake. It is a huge mistake because it is the best night time soap opera show. It has a really good story line thus far into the season; it should not be canceled. this is rediculous. you should not cancel such a great show. it is something that you’ve gotten a set number albeit a small group of people, set on throughout the first season and now the second season. then you’re going to take it off the air by not renewing a third season? that’s utterly rediculous. come on peeople. including steve mcpherson. smarten up you idiot!!!!!!!!!!

What the hell are you thinking? This is a great show and you screw us over again. ABC has a ton of crap and they cancel DSM. It makes no sense. The ratings may not be stellar but there is certainly enough of a following. Dancing with the “stars” is a joke, Private practice is so bad it isnt even a joke, Extreme makeover is the same damn show every week, Supernanny and wife swap- who is watching this crap?
How about a different night / different time before pulling the plug genius!

I am so disappointed. Dirty Sexy Money rocks! And I feel like it probably has a completely different audience than some of the other shows on ABC. You would think that ABC would see the benefit in gaining a diverse audience instead of having the same audience watch all its shows. I’m sure that the same people that watch Grey’s watch Private Practice. The same with some of the other ABC shows. But this show is different and based on the other comments, it has gained a new set of viewers that may not be watching some of the other shows. ABC, you are making a mistake. You are going to lose out on some viewers that aren’t watching your other series.

While I’m not happy about the cancellation, I understand it. I LOVED DSM when it first came out. But since then, the show has kind of forgotten what it was. It started off as this sort of… funny drama/mystery. Who killed Nick’s father? Has that question even been mentioned this season? Where’s the funny? It used to be pretty funny. Remember the pilot episode? That was really fun. But this season has been so far removed from that. It’s just been needless drama for the sake of drama. It’s like the show forgot that it wasn’t a soap opera. It’s a real shame. Also, the situation between Nick and his wife is just absurd. I mean, he wouldn’t let her have the gallery because of Jeremy, but he got to keep working for the family despite his past relationship with karen and her persistent attempts to get him back (and his advances). Where’d his rationality go? Why was he after Karen again after having demonstrated he didn’t want to go there after last season.

Juliette being MIA this season has been weird… they picked an odd way to try and write her out of the series for being annoying instead of learning from the moments where her character worked and using her that way. And then this most recent episode… what are they doing to Tripp’s character? and Letisha’s as well… I mean they’re really skewing the characters we’ve come to know for the sake of creating drama and it’s weird.

It’s just lost itself, and that’s the unfortunate part.

Brandy, Sorry for the remark I said about Private Practice. I normally don’t apologize, but as you can tell I was caught up in the moment. I am as passionate about television as some are about football, baseball..etc, so I respect everyone’s tv viewing schedules. I like Grey’s Anatomy and just expected more out of Private Practice, that’s all. The ratings aren’t that great on the show, however, I am sure Shonda Rhimes has a contract with ABC and a lot of pull. It just infuriates me that they are cancelling one of the best night-time soaps…ever! I feel like I’m having Deja Vu from the 2002 cancellation of PASADENA on the FOX network. Their is so much shit on ABC, I cannot believe they would cancel such a great show. This is what makes me scared to start up new shows. I watched the first episode this year of LIFE ON MARS and loved it, however, that’s the last epsiode I watched of it because it was so good and different, I knew ABC would cancel it if it were not an overnight sensation like Desperate Housewives or Lost.

What kills me the most is….HOLYYWOOD is full of liars like Steve Mc Pherson, so why not advertise these shows with “ok ratings” as the number 1 show on tv and build the hype! ABC went form 5th place to 1st place almost overnight in 2004 and they are getting greedy in my opinion. They were fine with OK ratings when they had NO HIT SHOWS WHATSOEVER.

I feel like I have lost a family member. If I were in LA, I would hunt Steve McPherson down and punch him in the fucking face! I know this is dramatic, but I hope he dies a horrible death!

This is seriously a great show…it keeps you on the edge and has twists and turns one would not think off…its witty unlike other shows that are just boring and dramatic. this has it all. Put it back on. Canceling the show is one of the worst decisions ABC has made.

I can’t believe DSM is getting cancelled. My coworkers and I all LOVE the show! It is my favorite on TV right now, there is nothing else out there like it. Every episode ends with a new twist that leaves me counting down to the next one. What a shame to get rid of such a wonderful show.

This really ticks me off. Seriously. It is one of the few shows that I love to watch. It has plot and drama, both things a show should have. These Super Nanny, Wife Swap, Dancing With The Star, and yes even Extreme House Makeover (which I do sometimes enjoy) are the ones that deserve to be canceled more. Down with the reality shows and bring on shows with some story to them.

Tv is meant for fiction and news. And well, food network haha. I am just tired of every channel having shows about setting people up or fixing the people or their stuff. I just want drama and action.

What the hell! Who in the world is in charge of picking the people in charge of making the decisons about what stays and what goes. As the saying (loosely) goes: Whose more the fool? The fool or the fool who follows the fool. Cancelling DSM is just another bone-headed decision made by TV network execs. I’m another DVR person who doesn’t get the opportunity to watch many of my favorite shows in real time. And BTW, even though I could skip pass them, I watch most of the commercials because I’ve gotten used to commercial interruptions and often forget that I’m watching a DVR’d episode. I hope the outcry is SO loud that the decision-makers wake-up and smell the coffee!

Guys I am from Italy (living in the UK ) I watched all the episodes from S1 and S2 on the satellite TV mixed with Internet viewing. I must say I am absolutely gobsmacked at the idea that they cancelled the show but….there is still a chance DSM will get high ratings in the Uk and on European Televisions. This might lead to more ordering and, a S3 you never know!!!!!

DSM season one is being broadcast right now in many European countries so it might take a while for things to develop.

WTF! XLD! Seriously ABC, what is wrong with you? I look at your entire evening line up, its littered with weak shows. The only reason I watched ABC is for LOST, DSM, …so you XLD DSM, now only LOST is on ABC! Whomever makes these decisions has something wrong with them. DSM was a funny, creative, sexy, hip, chic, modern show.

Gregs, Priv. P & D. Housewifes never won me over. If you didn’t have LOST, you’d be a weak network. I’m tempted to just watch LOST by downloading eps online & not give ABC my viewership at all. Maybe I’ll just watch Criminal Minds at 9PM.

So when will the last 4 eps air then?, if you will finish off the season, it was only on ep 9.

How can you even consider cancelling a show like this one and keep these ridiculous shows like Nanny, Wife Swap, Pushing Dasies, and I can list a few more. This was a very bad decision, and I’m so very dissapointed in ABC. ABC gets some good shows and gets the public really interested and then they cancel them just like ” What about Brian” . I don’t know what ABC is thinking. DSM is a great show. They couldn’t even give it a proper send off. I guess the viewers get screwed twice. I’m so sick of these scripted reality shows with a bunch of loosers want their 15 minutes of fame. Give us something that requires real actors, writing and a thought process. Give us back DSM. This IS the very BEST show on prime time television today. A dream cast, in a dreamy setting with an amazing plot that is fun and sudsy.

We will not watch ABC’s reality nonsense, or game shows.

Time we all put a line in the sand and said “enough”.

CBS started it all with that damn “Survivor” nonsense, and ever since they are programming more and more as it is cheaper and easy to put on a network.

Seriously, they can still save this one – they should do it.
DVDs of “Dallas” and “Dynasty” are selling all over the world – for a reason – people enjoy these types of shows – you have one, don’t ruin it for the network, Disney – and us.

Love the show, please bring it back. My husband and I are avid viewers who are now totally distraught without the show. We have major purchasing power and this was the only show we watch religiuosly.

Please cancel Private Practice, Gray’s Anatomy and Lost to be able to bring back DSM!! If you cancel Lost you can add Matthew Fox to the list of actors on DSM. Just a thought.

Im from Cape Town South Africa and we love Dirty Sexy Money here, weve jsut finished season two, I went on Google immediately to check out news of Season 3 as Season 2 ended so brilliantly to be let down to find out it has been cancelled. I find this utterly crazy,,,this is such a fantastic show better than Desperate Housewives (although that was my number one favourite till DSM came along) with all the letters you have received above why cancel the show, with such briliant actors like Lucy Lui, Baldwin, Donald Sutherland, Jill Clayburgh, Blair Underwood. how can you go wrong to cancel. Honestly am not even a TV person and one day i was so bored i watched it. I CAN’T BELIEVE THEY CANCELED IT! That’s like canceling Boston Legal. I mean this McPherson guy wtf is up with his brain cells? I went to africa and my friend who watches every ABC show didn’t care too much for DSM and after i made her watch one show she watched the entire season in one day. Now how do i tell her it’s cancelled? It’s annoying. Cancel private practice, even ugly betty, and the other stupid reality shows
