MY OWN WORST ENEMY Cancelled

My Own Worst Enemy - Christian Slater as Edward Albright/Henry Spivey, Saffron Burrows as Dr. Norah Skinner

It is official. MY OWN WORST ENEMY has been cancelled.

According to EW’s Michael Ausiello, NBC will not be ordering any My Own Worst Enemy episodes although it is unclear if the show is going to be pulled from the schedule immediately.

I think it is too bad that they didn’t give this show more of a chance. I like Christian Slater and, with better writing, he might have been able to shine some more.

This is disappointing but not really unexpected… as my hubby likes to complain, it’s not a terribly believable scenario. Not the split personality, but the idea that once he’s broken, they wouldn’t just kill him. It’s really too bad – Christian Slater has become one hell of an actor, it’s been interesting to watch him play dual roles. Hopefully they’ll at least let the season play out in full.

I only watched My Own Worst Enemy so I can’t comment on Lipstick Jungle. I thought Edward’s personality was ok, but Henry was such a wuss. I didnt like that part of his character whom I would normaly be rooting for. Henry just didnt have anything redeeming his character. Unless you want to be nitpicking and point out that he is a good husband and father -_-’

    misspelled – normally

I really liked the show and I don’t think it should have been cancelled. I hope that they do finish the season, at least, like Gretchen said.

  • oscar

I don’t really like many shows on TV but I did like this one. I don’t understand why it was cancelled. They should give it a chance.

I hear a lot of people who don’t like a particular show call it unbelievable or unrealistic, but shows like Alias, 24, and others survived many seasons. If I want realism I just go to work or work around the house. The fantasy of these shows can be a good distraction. Personally I like the show. Christian Slater has become quite a good actor. Pulling the plug on it may have been a bit premature.

This is horrible… Finally I find a replacment for Alias and have been waiting forever and had been satisfied and getting to no the show. We were just getting to know the characters. NBC is really dumb to let this show go.. You’ll keep Night Rider but not this… I hope another network is watching like CBS or FOX or TNT should pick it up. They believe in there shows and supporters and give us time to follow. This is why CBS and Fox didn’t have to add too many shows…. and my favorite show is Dexter… People like cable because the season is short but they don’t get canceled without giving us a true shot…. This is sooooo crazy can’t wait for Damages to return and I’ll just have to watch the Mentalist… which is awesome.. again CBS not NBC. I’m so done maybe I should just tape it and wait and see if NBC picks any show for a second season… or just drop NBC altogether… just remembered why I’ve chosen other networks

Its a shame they are taking it off the air. I thought It complimented Monday nights “guy” shows. My monday nights will have to end early now After Heroes. With better writing This show could have been alot better. They got a little carried away with everyone being spies with alter personalities. But all in all it was a good concept. Christian Slater played the part well and believable. Hopefully they end the show somehow, and not just leave us hanging like “Journeyman” which was also a good show that didnt get the credit it deserved. The whole reality show gig is ruining good television.

  • Ricky

This really sucks. I really like this show. Hopefully they will be able to find another network.

  • Kathy

I really liked this show, just could not watch at this time slot. I like to view on the web or another network. Wish they would atleast let it play out here so I can see more. I really like Christian Slater, would do good in a spy or cop type show. You know something lke the Cleaner or the Closer. Hope to see more of him in prime time.

  • Migloto

well this is a big surprise. NOT. Slater is hardly a headliner, and his acting skills are mediocre at best. A faulty storyline with ridiculous plots, this was a cancellation waiting to happen. It’s surprising that it lasted this long! The only consolation is that this is not the first, (nor the last) ridiculous show NBC has put forth. Kudo’s to the people who decided to pull the plug; this show was clearly on life-support out of the gate. Thank you for putting us out of our misery!

  • Sherry Ann

I also liked this. I think it had good potental. It’s one that my hubby and I have been watching. I was shocked when my husband came home teling me it was the first and the last season

  • Marci

I do not watch a lot of television but when I saw the previews for My Own Worst Enemy I was intrigued. I have been a fan since the first episode! I am very surprised it has been cancelled before the show aired its 5 pilot episodes! Usually a network gives them 5 weeks before they decide to cancel. 4.2 million people watch the show! I know that number is low for Neilson ratings but not to me! 4.2 million people are VERY DISAPPOINTED! I have been taping the show . SO GLAD I DID! Can’t wait for it tonight! What I find odd is the news said the last show would be aired Nov 25 yet it is on tonight with a new episode! I hope all the fans can come together and help the show to return! I have seen it happen before! Christian Slater does a WONDERFUL job as do the rest of the actors! Their show DESERVES a chance to make it!

My husband and I watched monday nights episode and thought it was great. Edward and Henry didn’t switch back forth so often. (It was more beliveable) And we liked how Edward and Tom’s moves and mannerisms were more that of a real agents.

Please don’t cancel the show. Reality TV sucks!!!

  • Gina C

I love this show. I am really going to miss it. At least we get to watch a few more episodes, maybe tie up some of th mysteries. Any petitions out to stop this???

  • Cindy

I would definitely like to see more. This storyline about split personalities is interesting. Christian Slater is awesome. They should maybe try to get different writers if they don’t like the way it is going rather than cancel the show.

  • Roberto

Once again a great show bites the dust while other stinkers remain on. I always wonder who these ‘experts’ are who make the decision to cancel shows. What a bunch of losers! Christian Slater is a great actor and his show should be saved. I hope there is a smart network out there to pick it up.

  • Chris

Once again, I show that I have really looked forward to each week has been cancelled. I agree with those who say it was a premature cancellation. I thought it was a helluva storyline, and the characters were all really well developed.

Oh well, I guess I’ll put this in the pile of other shows that should’ve kept going … anyone remember Vengeance Unlimited with Michael Madsen? Greatness.

  • Markita

It looks like they are paving the way for the upcoming Jay Leno Primetime slot.

  • Truth

Jay Leno sucks. Another reason to watch another channel

  • Cody s

At first I didn’t want to watch this over hyped show. Then I got hooked as everyone else here did . So glad that Lipstick got canceled, horrible knock-off show. This one was at least something different. Hopefully ABC will pick this up like they did with Scrubs.

  • TV Dad

OK, I wondered why the No Body Cares network was canceling MOWE, now we know, its to keep Leno. Big save guys. With the pathetic line up all the networks have friday nights, you think they could at least give it a shot that night before totally pulling the plug. Oh well, if they can’t save he show, maybe Slater can pick up another prime time role, he’s pretty good on the small screen.

  • Jolene Rutherford

My Own Worst Enemy is the only show on NBC I have watched in years due to the really bad reception I get on that channel. It was worth putting up with all of the ‘snow’. Also, I didn’t even watch the last episodes of Boston Legal (which I really like) because I was watching My Own Worst Enemy. It is so much better written than most broadcast t.v. shows these days, the acting is great and the plot is always very tight with plenty of unexpected twists. It is just too good for NBC? Well, after this, NBC will go back to being not good enough for me. I am really disappointed.

  • Tim Dotson

Never fails everytime a smart show comes along and I get hooked it gets cancelled.

Jericho, Journeyman, and now this…..yet we keep Knight Rider…come on!! And how many episodes of Dateline can you air in a week???

Move it to Friday night or Sunday night after football season.

Let’s hope ABC or TNT or USA picks this show up and runs with it.

And way to leave us hanging tonight, Mary sees Raymond Kill 2 guys, Tony gets killed…..computers get erased and that was the last episode we are ever gonna see???? At least they should have reshot the end and let Tony live and fix Edward/Henry and everyone lives happily or something.

Typical, can’t show a smart show but give us a bunch of has been celebrities dancing or some fat people crying and losing weight and you can’t show it enough. I give up!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sharon Butler

This show was cancelled prematurely. The ratings were going up, as the storyline developed. The last show was great, and we couldn’t believe the ending, and that’s where they are going to leave us. Maybe if NBC would give a show a chance to get the storyline going before they start yelling cancel, they would get a lot more viewers. Most of the time I won’t watch anything new right away, so I don’t get hooked and then get disappointed. They got me again, since I started watching this one from the beginning. I also hope one of the other networks pick up the show, then NBC can watch their ratings go up and realize they made another mistake, just like Journeyman. I also agree, Reality TV sucks, and yet they keep creating more shows. At the rate they’re going with the reality shows, local TV is going to become a thing of the past, as far as I’m concerned.

  • Tony G.

NBC stinks! My Own Worst Enemy didn’t even get a fair chance, going up against Monday Night Football. This show was probably being recorded during the game to be watched at a later time and the ratings will not reflect this. Give it a chance, it’s one of two shows that I watch on regular TV. It’s a great show!

  • MICKEY

This is horrible. I finally found a show on network television that I I really enjoyed. I should have never place my trust on NBC to continue to run quality programing. This show was totally awesome. Back to HBO.

  • Laurie Stair

I can’t believe they are cancelling this show. I really like it a lot. The cast is very talented. It’s fast paced and interesting. I love the two-personality idea. I think it’s fresh and brillant and exciting. Hey, Alias wasn’t believeable but it was great, too. Everything doesn’t have to be believeable. It’s entertainment! Love the show.

  • pisces

I am so pissed, I loved that show is was my new fav!!!!!! I am so upset

  • Sherry Beneda

When I checked to make sure my tivo was set to record my favorites after the first, I couldn’t find My Own Worst Enemy.
I was shocked to look on the internet and see it was gone.
It was so amazing and fast paced and i loved the characters.
I’m totally crushed and will miss it. Now all I have left is The Mentalist

  • Kevin Landis

Wow ! Now I know there’s really a conspiracy to take everything I love away from me. “Alright , listen up people! K-Man really likes this show. We heard he may even love it ! So,lets do whatever we have to, to get this show cacelled! ” ( Trust me, there’s a list. But I digress. ) The concept,( for people that have some imagination, )was great! The cast really worked well together, although, as was stated in some other coments, the writers could use some help. Hey, there’s a concept for you. Have people e-mail in suggestions for episodes, and the writers run with the best of them. I’ll be waiting!..oh yes, and Migloto, your a MigMoron! Get a MigLife>

  • Emalie Levine

I too was shocked to learn back in Nov they canceled this show. It was great – it forced you to pay attention and it was fast moving. I guess the majority of TV viewers out there are not fast enough to keep up with the story line. But I LOVED it. I was quite saddened to search my TV guide tonight and not to see the show listed. I was unaware NBC had such few episodes of MOWE to air. Somebody do something and bring this show back.

  • cindy

Oh my goodness! This was the best series in forever!!! Please bring it back.

  • Let

I am so upset to hear that they pulled the plug on this one. This was one of those shows that my husband and I watched together. I thought Christain Slater was doing a good job and that it was an interesting concept for a TV show. They should have given it a chance.
