THE EX-LIST Cancelled

The Ex-List

It was bound to happen sooner or later. Moonlight‘s replacement on Friday nights, THE EX-LIST, has just been cancelled by CBS according to Michael Ausiello.

I guess it’s safe to say that millions of Moonlight fans are jumping up and down at the news and saying “Told you so!”

I just have to wonder, when is CBS going to realize that the audience they got with Moonlight was probably one of the most they will ever get on Friday night in that time slot. I mean how many shows do they have to cancel before they just give up.

So what do you Moonlight fans have to say?

What do I have to say? CBS, you should have never cancelled the best show you had on the air…MOONLIGHT! We knew from the get go the Ex-list would never make it. Why they cancelled a show like MOONLIGHT for this bilge is beyond me and several other million people.

“I just have to wonder, when is CBS going to realize that the audience they got with Moonlight was probably one of the most they will ever get on Friday night in that time slot. I mean how many shows do they have to cancel before they just give up.”

This statement is amazingly erroneous… Close To Home, the show that aired on Fridays earned as much as 2-3 million more than ML in that slot. Also, a recent REPEAT of NCIS drew 11.2 million in that slot. ML could only manage an average of 7.5M in that slot.

TEL was obviously a dud from the first episode but it’s failure doesn’t make ML any more of a success.

People should cut CBS some slack for even trying a vampire show on mainstream television and giving it the multiple chances it had. The real blame should lay on the american audience that simply doesn’t tune into good genre, scripted series very reliably.

What the failure of ML and TEL indicate to me is not that Friday is a wasteland of viewers but rather simply that something else is needed to fill that spot. NCIS and a recent repeat of The Mentalist on Friday both show that there is an audience out there if CBS programs for it.

ML and TEL (and Swingtown) are all shows that probably would have done better on cable nets.

I knew The Ex-List was going to fail. Sorry, but I don’t think women want to watch a show like that. Will its failure bring moonlight back? No. I loved moonlight, but it’s gone for good unfortunately. It seems most networks don’t know what viewers want, and shows that deserve a chance to get an audience, aren’t given the time or promotion.

The Ex-List was a bold move on the part of CBS into what I call “ABC territory” – female cetric dama. However, the show itself was plagued by low quality writing, among other things.
If there’s anything the ratings from last Friday proved, is that BOTH tEL and Moonlight were wrong for CBS, as both failed to bring in the viewers that CBS wanted. NCIS rerun proved that the 9p time slot is not “dead”, as Moonlight fans have claimed countless times, but that the network really needed a winner to fit into the schedule and its audience’s taste. Moonlight was wrong on many levels: it catered to a limited audience, its writing was deeply flawed and amateurish, and most characters and cast members were unpersuasive and non-engaging. tEL was just another mistake, though on the creative level rather than the conceptual one. CBS is never going to bring back Moonlight, campaigns notwithstanding. It’s time the show’s fans realize it and move on.

I loved Moonlight and was pissed when it was cancelled. When The Ex list replaced I was so happy because I loved the Ex list. I have been dissapointed all over again. I hate CBS.

I agree with char — I LOVED the EX LIST!! what a fun and lighthearted show…..lots of romance and the actress was
great! How in the world could they not have given this show more
of a chance?? It was so cute and will be missed by many women
out there. who knows….maybe someone will get a clue and find a home for it somewhere so us fans can watch it again!

i think the ex list was one of the funniest shows on tv. I was very disappointed to see it cancelled. I thnk you shoud reconsider and give more of a chance. Thanks!!

I am very disappointed the ex list has been cancelled!!!! My girlfriends and I loved it. There hadn’t been a show since Sex and the City that caught our interest!!!! CBS is just wrong!

  • Angie

I loved moonlight and I really was getting into the ex list ….thanks a lot cbs

I am livid that they cancelled” The ex list” I was just really starting to get in to the show. I don’t care anything for the “Moonlight” show. it’s not fair for viewers who watched ” The ex list” this blows!

  • lori

Clearly CBS doesn’t know real women? Most of us over the age of 30 are sitting at home Friday nights because husbands and long time boyfriends don’t take us out on dates anymore! I loved the Ex list and CANNOT believe they have already cancelled it. Matter of fact each episode caused me to secretly wish that I could go back through my Ex-list! I never respond on any of these boards, but this really ticked me off. 4 episodes…that is not an effort. I even had it set for my dvr just in case I happened not to be on the couch Friday nights.

If you want to watch the Ex-List, tune into CBS on Mondays and watch “How I Met Your Mother”. Becasue the “Ex-List” was just a better title than “How I met Your Father”

  • Jo

I never watched Moonlight because I never even knew about it, but I started watching The Ex List because I saw commercials for it and wanted to see how they would make an entire series out of a premise like that and I have nothing better to do on a Friday night than watch my husband play on his computer. I actually really liked it, thought it was cute and funny and like most shows I end up liking, it got pulled. Just a little hint to the networks out there, nothing makes me NOT want to watch a new show like figuring it will just get cancelled a few weeks in. At least this time I didn’t get a chance to get too attached only to be left hanging like with Men in Trees on ABC. Now that REALLY ticked me off.

  • Diana

Well, I am so disgusted to hear that X-List got cancelled. I am so sick and tired of finding a good show just to have it cancelled. Happened with Men in Trees, American Dreams, and many other great shows through the years. It makes me want to quit watching tv and read more books!

  • Melissa Gasia

Why do u have to keep cancelling shows.. ??? i loved the Ex list.. !!!
i even started the Lipstick jungle.. and heard it was also cancelled!!
seriously people, cant u atleast finish one season or give a good ending to the last episode.. Why do we have to keep watching if we have a doubt that one day this show will just be cancelled??

  • Brandy

I loved this show and watched the episodes on my DVR several times. I think if the ratings were low you should look at the time slot it was in, because people cool enough to watch this show are not sitting home on a Friday Night to watch it. We DVR or Tivo the show while we are out having a life and watch it later. Please rethink this Hasty Retarded decision !

  • Kevin

I too am bummed that the Ex List got cancelled. I never used to watch TV on Friday nights butI looked forward to making sure I was home to watch this show. It was a great show that kept me laughing and wondering what was going to be happening the next week. I can’t believe that they took it off! It had just barely gotten started.
