CRASH “Episode One” (Season 1 Episode 1) – Series Premiere

Starz is going to premiere a new original series, CRASH, based on the Academy Award movie of the same name, on Friday, October 17, at 10pm.

While I absolutely loved the movie, I was not convinced by the TV show. In fact, apart from having the same name, the show and movie are very different.

The TV show does use the idea of different people in Los Angeles interacting with each other, but I found myself not really caring about any of them, as opposed to the movie which made you care about each and single one of the characters.

Sure, the actors are really strong, and of course having Dennis Hopper as part of the cast is a big plus, but if the characters are not interesting, then even strong actors are not going to make the show good.

Funny enough, the only character that kind of spiked up my interest was Kenny Battaglia (played by Ross McCall), an LAPD street cop who has an act for breaking the rules. Not a very likeable character, but an intriguing one none the less.

Dennis Hopper plays Ben Cendars, a music producer, without any redeeming qualities. I didn’t really connect to that storyline at all.

I’ll let you discover for yourself who the rest of the characters are. (You can also take a look on the Crash website).

I should let you know that I had to watch the episode on my computer, which I hate to do (even shows I love), so that might have affected a little how I felt about the episode. Still, if it had been amazing I would have loved it either way.

I personally will not be watching the show, but I really think that some people will enjoy it. Like I said, the cast is strong and even though I didn’t really like any of the storylines, some of you might.

You can watch the first and second episode of Crash online to make up your own mind at the Starz Screening Room or you can tune in to Starz on Friday, October 17, at 10pm.

If you have seen the episode, what did you think? Am I being too harsh? Are there storylines that you enjoyed watching?

I can’t believe you didn’t like CRASH, everything about it screams quality. From the look of the show to the very interesting characters in the world of CRASH. That’s right I said interesting characters… The mysterious Doctor, Axel the bad cop (how cool is he?), and the always surprising Ben Cendars played by Dennis Hopper.

Then you go and give a decent rating to a show like CRUSOE, which has the worst production value I’ve seen on a show in a long time. I mean it is really low quality entertainment.

I hope you reconsider and check out CRASH on a television rather than watching an online version of it.

    Thank you!

I totally see what you are saying Jeremy, and I am surprised that I didn’t really like “Crash” that much. Maybe you’re right and I should give it another chance and watch it on TV.

As for “Crusoe,” I would in no way compare the quality of the two. The reason I said good things about Crusoe was because it was entertaining, even if it’s not the best show on TV. I enjoyed myself (I am sorry to say) more than when I was watching Crash.

But you know what, you convinced me to watch the second episode on my TV. And who knows, maybe I’ll actually enjoy it.

Drawing from the racially-charged Oscar award-winning story line of the movie and starring Dennis Hopper at his most outrageous, Crash is definitely worth checking out.

Crash: TV series is set to air in Canada on national Pay-TV station Super Channel starting October 20.
