HBO’s TRUE BLOOD Sookie’s “Mine” (9/21/08)

True Blood - Stephen Moyer as Bill, Anna Paquin as Sookie

Tonight, TRUE BLOOD‘s third episode, “Mine,” aired.

Wow, this was another great episode and I am falling more and more in love with Sookie and Bill. They have such an interesting “chemistry” that I cannot wait each week to find out what’s going to happen next.

All I can say about Sookie after tonight’s episode is that she does not scare easily. When the three vampires all teamed up around her and Bill wasn’t really doing anything, I would have been scared sh*tless, but she seemed pretty sure that things were going to be ok.

Which brings me to saying that those vampires are scary! When I talk about True Blood to people, a reaction that I get a lot is “Why would I want to watch a show where vampires don’t kill humans? That’s the fun of it.” Tonight’s episode just made my case, because turns out vampires are still vampires. Even though they don’t have to feed on humans anymore to survive, doesn’t mean they don’t want to.

As for Jason, I’m still not sure what his purpose is (apart from sleeping with everyone that turns up dead I mean).

Tara, I’m still not sure how I feel about her. I think it’s too bad we don’t see more of her and Sookie’s interaction. I do have to say that she is one hell of a trooper with her mom, because with the way her mom treats her, she still tries to help. I would have left her deal with her mess. So in that way, I am totally rooting for her to find a way to move out and move on with her life.

So those are my highlights for tonight’s episode.

What about you? What did you think of tonight’s episode?

I haven’t been lucky enough to watch True Blood (no HBO in Canada), but as a fan of the books I can tell you that Jason’s ‘purpose’ doesn’t become apparent until much later. If what I heard about the 1st book being the outline for the first season is true, he’ll just be sleeping around for some time still.

Well, it’s good to know that he does have a purpose, but maybe they should spend less time on him then, since not everybody who watches the show has read the book. So far, I am not really liking him.

I do want to read the books though, especially if the first season is only book 1. I need to find out what happens next.

You definitely have to get the show on DVD when it comes out though, it’s really good.

Regarding Jason’s purpose, he advances the plot, at least at this point in the series:

He has slept with two women who wind up dead, and is a suspect.

    [SPOILERS]

The next several episodes show Sookie being drawn into the vampire world with Bill’s help, so that she can investigate by using her “gift” and hopefully find the real killer and absolve her brother.

I have not read the books yet but it’s my understanding that this is how Sookie meets many of the characters who she deals with throughout the rest of the book series. So, so far, Jason is actually more pivotal to Sookie’s activities and adventures than he seems to be, or than his dimwitted character even realizes.

Btw–the above weren’t ‘spoilers,’ as the previews last week for this weekend’s episode show this. :)

    Hi L,

It could be considered spoilers if you haven’t seen the previews yet. I find that sometimes it’s better to warn people :-)

Oh and you will be happy to hear that after seeing this week’s episode, I now like Jason better. I won’t say too much here, but I’ll write a review soon. ;-)
