Review: AMERICAN IDOL “10 Finalists Compete”

And we are down to the Top 10 on AMERICAN IDOL Season 7!

First, I would like to say that 1) thank God there was no more of The Beatles songs 2) I actually think that those two weeks messed some of the contestants up. The Beatles are just not for everybody, and two weeks of it was just a bad idea.

Thankfully, tonight was the best night so far. Almost everyone stepped it up. So without further ado, here is what we thought of the contestants.

1. Ramiele Maluby

Thoughts: She wasn’t really good, in fact the background singer actually outsang her. So sad. I think it’s time for her to go home.

2. Jason Castro

Thoughts: Simon is insane!!! Jason’s performance was so good. He is and remains my favorite in the competition.

3. Syesha Mercado

Thoughts: Has Syesha been holding back all these weeks? That was AMAZING!!! I guess The Beatles wasn’t her thing, because man she brought it tonight.

4. Chikezie Eze

Thoughts: Here is how I feel about Chikezie’s performance: I fast forwarded through it after hearing the beginning of the song. Such a boring song to choose. I was not feeling him tonight.

5. Brooke White

Thoughts: Still love Brooke. I thought her performance was good. Not the best, but definitely above average. Like I say every week, she is very talented.

6. Michael Johns

Thoughts: Michael Johns is back!!! Maybe he should only perform Queen songs because it seems to be working for him. This was his best performance so far!

7. Carly Smithson

Thoughts: It was ok. I love this song, but i don’t think Carly’s voice was big enough for it. And don’t know what it is about Carly, but I just cannot get excited about her.

8. David Archuleta

Thoughts: I didn’t know the song, but I thought it was pretty good. Not his best, but good enough to stay in the competition.

9. Kristy Lee Cook

Thoughts: Not sure about the song, was it a desperate attempt to get votes? But you know what, I have liked Kristy from the beginning and this week was her strongest performance, so go Kristy!

10. David Cook

Thoughts: BEST OF THE NIGHT!!! David Cook is brilliant! What a performance! This is why we watch American Idol, to watch these types of performance. David Cook is becoming my favorite.

My favorite is Michael Johns! …He’s the only one who every week looks, acts and sounds like a rock star — with an amazing voice at that. Artists like him who have the full combination are increasingly hard to find nowadays, which is why he gets my vote!

As for David Cook, I think taking a fast song and making it slow in order to “surprise people” has become a bit of a clichÃ©. I don’t know how he manages to keep a straight face singing Billie Jean that way, though he did do it well I suppose.
